I searched; didn't *quite* find the answer I think I'm looking for.
91 Jeta 8v, 207k miles. It got a new T-stat last winter when I got it (heatercore had blown and it wouldn't generate any heat)
It ran great over the summer - cold a/c, not overheating.
Once fall got here the MPG dropped and the needle rarely moves out of the white 'cold' zone. It will move to the halfway point if I'm in a lot of stop and go driving.
Do T-stats fail with regularity? Should I just go ahead and change it?
TIA

Re: Another Thermostat Q. (G-rocco)

I would change it, if the needle doesn't move, that means its stuck open, and the car isn't getting up to proper temp to run correctly. The CTS wont tell the ECU to adjust the O2 sensor, and it will run very poorly.

I'm looking at prices; seems silly not to change it for the $10 bucks a new T-stat is.
To clarify, it's not that the needle dosen't move, it just doesn' move much! I suppose it's all the same symptoms of a stuck open 'stat.
I'm looking here

Re: (RandomDubber)

Try changing the coolant temp sensor.
