I have the stock montreal 2's on my 2002 GTI and just installed and eibach prosystem plus. The handling difference is dramatic though a bit harsher. I'm looking to upgrade my stock 16's with Potenza SO-3's but wonder if going to 17's with a 225-45-17 tire would make the car more responsive. Can anyone help me out? Is the Plus sizing worth the extra grand or so? Or will the upgraded rubber make a noticable difference. I only drive on the street BTW. Thanks all!

If you think your suspension made your ride harsher, I would say dont go to a larger wheel combo. I am trying to trade my 17's off for some decent 15's because I am tired of being beat to death on the roads. Good tires make a large difference in handling and behavior of your car.

Thanks guys that's what I thought. I guess I'll stick to the 16s and upgrade the tires. I don't need the trouble the "show" 17s would bring especially in my neighborhood.

I would say that 17's are worth it if they are a) lighter than other wheels you can find b) at the same time you want bigger brakes. Case in point, I want bigger brakes and 17in Centerline forged wheels are lighter than most 16 inch wheels I have seen. I'm not overly concerned about ride, since the car the 17's are going on is not daily driven.
