Re: Sadly, the GTi has become officially played out (FryingPan)

If you had a silver 540i, you would see a ton of them too.
When I got my 91 4runner, that's all I saw.
The GTI is still cool, no matter how many you see.
And there are plenty of people out there who see there VW as nothing more than transportation.
We see then very different.
My 2 cents

Who cares if there is 50,000 MK4 GTI running around, thats the beauty of personally modding your GTI!

i drive my modded '88 GLi 16v and ive had Mk4 GTi owners snicker at me and make nasty comments. only 2 real tards tho, one said what a heap, the other just stared straight ahead and ignored me when i gave him the VW nod. maybe its just me?

And so am I.

Many people do use there VWs for transportation. I still don't see the VWs racing around left and right like the Hondas and Acuras.

Re: Sadly, the GTi has become officially played out (jorlando)

Cliffside Park, bro....
You MK2 people scoping out the scene obviously have nothing else better to do. Go back to the MK2 forum and talk about installing fubas and installing rallye grilles. HAHA...just kiddin...I've been there, too. My Jetta Coupe represents your forum, so gimme a little respect. I graduated to the MK4's. Too many Gti's isn't that bad, but when you see black MK4 GTI's w/ fire painted on the sides of them, you gotta shake your head in disbelief. If you are out there, dude.....go to a body shop first thing in the morning and wipe that shyte off, bro. I miss the hardcore GTI owner.......they're all posuers now.....whatta shame..........

Re: Sadly, the GTi has become officially played out (apr_tuned_jetta)

VW's are here and there around my area. But i have only seen a couple like mine with the beautiful Longbeach rims and a 1.8T.Everytime i go by another Jetta, they just stare in awe at my rims.It really does make the whole car look different.I'am the only Cool White Jetta with Longbeach rims in my area,i think.

not just you. when i still had my ginster mk3 a few months ago on RT 70 i pulled up next to a white 4 door golf - full kit, 17"s, exhaust etc.. looked over and nodded and what did he do? gave me the dirtiest look and resumed his "gangsta lean"

most mk4 drivers ive come across have no love for previous gen dubs and have bought their car cause VW's are cool now

true, but the point remains, Buy ANY car and you will notice it alot more than when you didn't have it. It seems like all I see anymore are dubs (or ridiculously hot cars), but that is because it is all that I drive. Hence the "make it yours" mentality and mod the he11 out of your ride: but do it with style.

Re: Sadly, the GTi has become officially played out (mlesher)

ive seen alot in linden nj, red gti with yellow lettering..i saw it the other day it looked stock now must be selling it, and a green one..other ones are just stock

quote:

ahh, the beauty of modding....that way they never really look (or act) exactly the same. I was bummed about the fact that there are VW's everywhere, but only a handful are modded, which just makes me love my ride all the more!!!!

I am one of the only GTIs in my area. What sucks is the other one is a rave green like mine.

Oh well...it looks NOTHING like mine, trust me!!

quote:

... the GTi has become as common as a Honda Civic.... everyone and their mother has a GTi. .... I never thought I'd see the day.

Oh, I get it. You just want to LOOK cool. Wouldn't it be cheaper and easier to just buy a lot of COOL clothes and walk around a lot?

Re: Sadly, the GTi has become officially played out (dmkozak)

In MOntreal, we have more Golfs, GTI's, jettas per capita than anywhere else. They love VW here. Always have, always will. It's part of the culture here... I don't see that many modded cars, mind you.
When I first got my car in April 99, I could go days without seeing another GTI. People would stare and smile (thumbs up, etc) especially the MK3 owners...
True, those were the days....
Now I read these forums and I can't believe what levels (performance and appearance) people are taking their cars to... amazing.
