Someone told me that by taking off the insolation material (which i did cuz it was pelling off) inside the hood can be harmful. The heat that the engine generates can cause the paint on the hood to fade out ? .. since the insolation isnt there anymore

NO. Newer mk4's don't even come with the insulation. It is used for sound deadening purposes.

Yes you are correct. Ask someone that works at a dealer. I'm lucky enough to have a VW Certified Master Tech sitting right next to me now.

No its not. The material that is made out of will get burnt through before it puts anything out. Explain to me exactly how that works...you know...putting it out and all.

It is for quieting the engine, I love how crappy polyester cloth junk is going to put out a fire. Thats too funny. I am going to buy one and wrap it around me. Then I will never start on fire.

You need oxygen for most fire, yeah? Blanket over top of the engine smothers the fire by restricting the amount of oxygen that can reach the flames...

I work for a dealer! OMG!!! It doesnt, it was put there to stop road noise, thats it. No other reasons at all.

Jesus Christ I wish people would stop spreading this misinformation. This is one of the biggest myths and it seems to come up every 3 months or so. It will not smother or put out a fire. It will catch in fire rather easily and will just add to the blaze. It is for sound deadning, period end of sentence.
