this is my 3rd VW owning 2 MKIV's and one MKV right now. Each VW has this crazy problem with the power windows not being able to close compeltely upon its one touch close or open completely with its one touch open. its real annoying right now, cause everytime i close my windows, as soon as it closes, it bounces back down to a open position. the only way i can get through this with manually shutting it myself is to turn off the car RIGHT where its closed completely, but if my timing is bad, the windows open even after the car is shut down.
i checked if there was something stuck on the windows thus activating the pinch protection. but there is nothing there. my warranty is just over and i would hate to be charged $50USD just to get this stupid thing working!

anyone have any idea how to reset the power windows on a MKV GTI? Thanks in advance!

Re: How do you reset those crazy power windows? (wuman82)

My right side window has had this problem since I bought it. 4 trips to the dealership and various parts replaced under warranty. It is not nearly as bad as it was when it first started, but still a annoying issue.

Clean all windows, inside and out.
Roll all windows down using the first click (not the one touch)
Roll all windows up using the first click
That should solve all problems not related to defective parts.

good to know as mine have done this on occasion.
Quick question - I have the key fob window thing activated on my GTI...does this completely eliminate the pinch protection? I have kids in the car frequently and would like to know this. thanks.

Pinch protection is not disabled by remote control of your windows.
Please do a test. Take an empty toilet paper tube, hold it into the top space of an open window, and remotely roll your windows up.
The tube will get a little crushed, but your window should rebound.
EDIT:
I just did a test with a pencil on the Right Rear window. The window rebounded all the way down. Please do your own test to put your mind at ease.

use your key on the outside of the car to reset the motion. first key in the hole, turn to left, and hold. the windows should go down all the way and sunroof should open. then close them by turning to the right and everything should close and your alarm will set. this should reset your windows..........................hope this helps.........................

thanks, it does work and i'm a happy man again.
weird thing is this feels like it has reseted by throttle body alignment or at least the driving adaption program. i was trying to break some records in milage these couple of weeks since i got some light rims. wanted to see if i could break my previous record. so the car was slow as hell before. but after i did the reset, it could be me, but my throttle response was so much better. not sure if i'm just crazy again like my power windows from before.

Bump cause I am having the same problem. When I get home I will clean the channel, and windows.. What does on recommend for cleaning the window channels?

What I usually do at work is raise or lower the window and hold the switch the whole time and 10 more seconds once it opens or closes.

Works on most cars... but sometimes they are just stubborn
