skizzle... your profile shows you in SD, but if you have the time for a road trip, F1 motorsports in North Hollywood will roll the fenders right... lots of high end tucked rides... $100'ish total to do both fronts... $50'ish per side when I went... and they roll just enough of the top of the fender arch to solve the problem http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif they did a great job on my car...

I read this in... oh who knows, one of the posts. What's the difference between rolling and pulling? Rolling does this L -> || and pulling + rolling does // ?

Rolling will change the L into ll no paint work necessary providing you use a heat gun, as mentioned.
Pulling the fenders requires some serious body work. Think of this way, to "pull" your fenders, take the wheel off and smash the inside of the wheel well with a hammer and dolley out ward. Inside of bending the lip up when you roll, you pull the fender lip down and out, then bash out even further add tons of hours of body work. Think of it as a wide body kit, but using stock fenders.

Made a fender roller a few years ago with my Pops, used an old pallet jack wheel as the roller...

http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif it took me a while it find the right wheel and I ended up using a pallet jack wheel, where were you last summer?

I was just going to start calling around to see who would roll my fenders also, but I think F1 motorsports will be who I give a call.
Thanks slvr32 http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

i rolled mine with a heat gun and 2.5 inch pvc piping. i jacked the car up and used the tire as pivot point for the piping. I didn't roll mine completly flat but far enough, i'm running 19's and my coils are dumped. I also took out a couple screws that hold the fender liner. i don't rub hardly at all, and if i do its the liner which now flexes becuase the screws aren't there.... so i'm set.
Oh and i didn't crack at all, and neither did my roomates s4, we did them at the same time. Just be patient

I did the same thing with my Civic, Integra, and Mustang (after fresh paint) with a heat gun. Be patient and you will get the results you desire. If you are anal, rent the tool. IMO, I think the PVC/ baseball bat works just fine and saves a few $'s. .02

Re: Rolling the front fenders ???? (skizzle168)

heat gun. a mallet. and some patience and i had no problem. no cracking or anything whatsoever. the tool is really just a bunch of hype and prolly takes more effort in using it than "primitive" methods.

My fronts are the L shape like vdubbin said. Ive searched everywhere and cant find a local place with the tool available. At least not one that advertises.
Pence- Cant believe you got 245's under there and 10mm spacers! Thats pretty wide! You must not have to crazy of an offset on your rims. If I put 245's on the CH's and spacers, It'd probabally chop the tire half
Image

Got another local, that will go halves on the tool dealy, so most likely thats what I'll do. I just dont think I can convince myself to take the risk w/ the PVC method.
I saw that custom made tool w/ the jack welded up when I was searching. I bet it works just as good as the $250 Eastwood tool. To bad Stevie Wonder could probabally weld and fab stuff better than I can

.
I was also just thinking about buying the damm thing and renting it out to the fellow peeps on the forum. Anyone be interested in this?

Skizzle, The only shop that I know of in SD that rolls fenders quite regularly is Group 5 Motorsport. They work on a lot of import cars and have rolled the fenders of my cars and several of my friends. Their shop works on a lot of Japanese imports (STI's/Evo's) - I would not say they are the best shop to deal with - always gotten some attitude from them when I have been there. That said, they know how to roll fenders.
One of my fenders did crack. If yours do crack, it will most likely be a hairline right on the ridge. I just filled the crack with a bit of touch up paint to keep moisture out and you can't see it unless you are looking up at it from the ground.

http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif there will ALWAYS be a paint cracking disclaimer from any shop
Image

if you're rolling your fenders because you've already caught the lip and unrolled the fender, there's a good chance that the paint is ready to crack, but the best thing you can do is double check and use a little touch up if necessary... chances are it's on part of the bend that you can't actually see... but you still need to put some paint on for rust protection

Re: (FiftyPence)

sorry if this has been said already....
You are not actually changing the shape of the fender, you are just eliminating the knife-like sharp edge on the inside of the fender. This will allow you to rub over big dips or sharp turns without gouging the **** out of your tires. You aren't changing the appearance of the fender at all, just making it "safer" for your tires

Re: (scharged)

Scharged is def. correct! No 240sx style fender flares! Just eliminating the unwanted "knife edge" lip on the inside.
Slvr- Not to late! funny thing is, im staying up in holywood thursday night! Working in Santa Monica/Beverly Hills Thurs/Friday. Im calling them tomorrow just to see what they have to say. Thanks for the input! Still probabally going to just rent the tool, as im fully capable and if possiblle, only my hands touch my cars. Only reason I was going to even think about letting a shop touch my baby, was for a guarantee on the paint aspect. Apparently thats not possibble,so in that regard I actually have more confidence in myself( being a former "aftermarket" tech) At least im not on the clock doing it myself. It's always more personal when its your car!
Thanks all for the input http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif to the R brotherhood!!

Re: (skizzle168)

Question as far as the heat gun goes- Do you just heat a little section at a time or warm the whole inside lip and swoop the roller back and forth along the whole edge. Really your just worrying about cracking what you are going to be creasing upward correct or actually just at the crease?
While thinking about it last night, I can see where a baseball bat or PVC pipe would work just fine.

Right here...

But yours is nice and painted...I didn't care to paint mine...actually mine has rolled quite a few MK3 fenders too and probably more as I'm sure people borrowed it when I lent it out to a friend.

Re: Rolling the front fenders ???? (octick)

From what ive read, ideal temp is between 100-120. Supposed to use one of those laser temp gauges. I think unless you already have one , thats just gettin' silly though.

Cant believe this thread went to 2 pages

you heat the whole edge, and try to roll allittle at a time
sweeping the whole arch.

lil bit of nitpicking on details... but you really want to roll 'just enough' of the top of the fender arch to solve the problem... if you roll 'too much' of the fender, you start hurting the structural integrity. in any case, good luck http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
