Help with just a "deeper" sound.....nothing obnoxious

We had a '98 Cabrio with the 2.slow engine and replaced the rusted exhaust system with a Stainless CAT back that had a nice deep note....We now have an '06 New Beetle w the 5 cylinder and my wife misses the "sound". Can anyone tell me the diameters of the pipes and any suggestions for just a muffler that might give us the deeper sound. tia

I went with a Borla muffler that matches up with the stock 2.25" pipes.
The sound is deeper, doesn't drone, and doesn't sound too raspy (Kept the resonator on.).
Granted many others with a 1.8T are using 2.5" turbo back, I went the economical route and am very happy with the deeper refined sound (than stock)... IIRC I only paid ~$200

once again, j-nice proves you wrong.

you'll see their exhaust for the mk4 golf/nb 1.8t/tdi/vr6 also fits the nb 2.5. i've installed 3 myself on friends' cars, and it's a seamless fit. you have to remember, the beetle is still a mk4 regardless of motor size, and that all the downpipes exit at the same spot. this is due to the exhaust hangers placement on the chassis.
oh yeah, that techtonics exhaust is the absolute business. sounds like an absolute dream.

I was told by an owner of an '06 vert that the tips won't fit under the '06+ rear valance correctly for systems made for the '05's prior. It looks like TT has the only one that does.

i reccomend tt because their money goes to r+d, not bling. sure, it looks like a factory exhaust, but it performs the best. magnaflow's should fit as well, as well as neuspeed. eurosport won't fit afaik (we tried to fit a eurosport to a 2.5...it was a pain and he returned it for a tt). ghl should fit as well.
i'd like to get my hands on a 2.5 nb and start modding it with parts from the s6 parts bin and such. just a head swap and some exhaust work should be good for 200hp.

i would love to hear the tt/borla on the 2.0L, i had it on my first 1.8t jetta and its great. very quiet, with a slight rumble. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Thanks to all for the help....
I have a muffler shop as one of my customers.....I think they are going to cut off the exhaust and see how that sounds....Then work form there. They tell me they can go with several choices....Magnaflow is one they work with all the time.
As far as "tips", the '06 NB shows has the stock pipes down turned below the bumper/valance showing no tips. I will let them show me what can be done. Regards, dg
