OK, so if you don't know yet, my car is a '97 Jazz Blue Drivers Edition. Not super rare, but at the same time, it was a "limited edition" car. So the paint is starting to look pretty sad, and since the car is probably going into the body shop soon anyway, I've decided to have it resprayed. But, would it be ethically wrong to have a different color sprayed onto a Drivers Edition, because that would take away the most basically noticeable feature that denotes the Drivers Edition status...What do you guys think?

Re: Full respray on Drivers Edition, question of ethics... (96jetta)

well, id look at it this way: you have a jazz blue DE, whixh is a relatively rare vw. now, lets say you had, oh i dunno, a porsche silver drivers Edition (for example), then wouldnt you have the rareest of the rare DEs? who cares if it didnt come from the factory like that, isnt that what car modifications are about?

Word http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif I mean if you paint it another color, its still a DE. So if you want it another color...go for it http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

If it were me and weren't showing the car I would go w/ a regular respray. Any touchups will end up costing more in the end. But its yo thang do what you wanna do

i say keep it jaz.. it will be cheper for you that way.. jazblue has a real fine metallic in it anyways. just have them do a good clearcoat job for you so your paint will last.

Keep it Jazz, unless you decide to completely strip the inside and outside of the car to have it repainted Dusty Muave

BTW, mine came that way http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

to do a color change correctly is a lot of work and costs quite a bit more money than a simple respray. this is because you have to take most of the car apart to get the door jams, engine compartment ect all changed as well. i see a lot of color changed cars at shows where they have taken short cuts and it always looks booty in my opinon.
plus jazz blue rules, so i think you should keep it the same color.

Yeah... unless you are going to pull the engine and do all the door jambs, etc., don't do a colour change.
If you want to add a subtle pearl, that'd be good. Do that.

If you spray it Jazz Blue with just a little bit or Pearl in it you dont have to strip anything. Just paint your inside your doors and everything and the door sills and stuff no one will notice

here is an idea. throw in some pearl, then put white gost flames on.
If you have photoshop knowledge you could play around with that or have someone else do it for you.

Here's my thought... a full re-spray in same color is simple since the interior, engine bay, and underside of the car are already done. Jazz Blue is an awesome color.. compliments the car vary well... If you want to change that's fine.. but be prepared to strip the car to a shell.. if you're gonna make the commitment to do it... than do it right.. ie paint entire interior, engine bay, and underside or don't bother... if your gonna be cheesy do it to a domestic car or an asian car... but don't do it to a limited production example of a GTI
