Not too many high hp TTs to ask. my stgIII TT received a Southbend clutch 6k miles ago. was all good until recently when the it feels like slippage up top. as boost rolls on, there is slip. i did keep the dual mass flywheel and that could be the culprit too, but thought i'd see if any of you have had similar. launches just fine.

I've only experienced it once in 4th... I think. It sure felt like it was slipping.

Aside from that one time, I never had any other issues.
I'm still stock on the clutch and flywheel BTW.

Thanks. it basically first felt like i was spinning the front wheels as i'd roll on power hard. but there was NO ESP light, squeel, or torque steer.

Yeah, I know. It took me by surprise. I was thinking " I'm making boost, I can hear the turbo, why am I not accelerating? I let off the gas and rolled into the throttle a little easier and everything was okay again.
Like I said, this has only happened one time.

With a stock clutch on a low mile GT480 car, we started slipping 5th and 6th after a few dragstrip launches. Never slipped our Stage 4 clutch though. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Clutch slippage will show the revs rising without the mph rising.
That's it. If the tires were spinning (obviously they're not in 4th or 5th gear)
the mph would still increase, so if it happens again
look at your tach and speedo. If your tach rises fast, and speedo rises
slow, and then you let off the gas holding rpms steady,
and the speedo keeps rising a bit, then your clutch is definitely slipping.

Three cheers for Streetwerke's Stage IV Clutch (love mine)
As stated above, when a clutch is beginning to go, upper gears will slip with the onset of boost.

Hate to say it, but I am having the same issue with my SB clutch.. I just ordered a SW, and am now looking for a new OEM flywheel.... I can no longer recommend the SB, sorry. but there have been too many issues lately

What stage South Bend did you go with? I'm replacing my clutch with their Stage 5 setup that is rated for 560 lb/trq. I'm hoping this one lasts longer then my ClutchNet 6 puck did.

My clutch is absolutely slipping, and quite badly at that. It's still the stock unit, I'll be swapping it out for likely a Clutch Masters Stg IV. (FX400)
I would not touch South Bend units, I've heard nothing but bad things about them.

Re: Any high horsepower guys' clutch slipping in 4,5,6th, but not off launch? (M this 1!)

If your clutch is going to slip it's going to be in the higher gears because of the lack of mechanical advantage as the ratios approach 1:1 or lower. It's not uncommon in high horsepower engines. Like has been said before Clutch Masters makes a good clutch as has been mentioned by those going with Turbo and Superchargers to enhance their R32's.

Didn't Shaka have major problems with SB?

Edit: Wow, I actually had a lucid recall! Alert the media!

I had issues with my southbend since day 1, took it out after 700 miles, it would NOT hold power.
I now have the Streetwerkes stage 4 which I like and does HOLD, plus works with OEM FW.

He did indeed, BIG problems, repeatedly. I've been wary ever since.
You can get an FX400 for just over $600. "CMFTW", and all that rubbish.
