Going for wheel bearings today hopefully. Do they need to be disassembled for the bearings to be pressed in?
Plus a sneak peak of some other items.
UPS dropped this off the other day:

Ugh.. Apologies for the horridly blurry pics.

Schweet. If my Neuspeeds sag so much as another inch, I'm gonna have to bite the bullet and go this route too.
Looks good. When are you going to put them on? (Obviously after bearings, but just curious to know when to expect some new pics...) Oh, you shouldn't *need* to disassemble for pressing bearings, but it probably wouldn't hurt and can only help keep everything looking minty fresh after you have them installed on the car.

Re: My coilovers... Let me show you them.. (snowfox)

Install will probably be this weekend or next. I still have to finish gathering parts in the general suspension area (half shafts, ball joints, rotors since the damnable set screws are siezed on mine, etc)

Sweet. Sounds like we have similar weekends lined up then. (Mine's not so grand has fitting up CO's though... Just Bil Sport cartridges/hubs/bearings/strut mounts followed by an alignment.)

Very nice. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif What spring rates are those? Those better be Bil. sports if you are going lower than 1.5 inches below stock.(I know

Re: (vw_jason79)

Ok, Ian's how to on building coilovers, sans pictures, most likely sans some fairly key info:
Step 1 remove your strut assemblies, or if your Fox is your daily, source another set of housings/assemblies so you can build with out having the car down.
Step 2 Disassemble assemblies as appropriate.
Step 3 Start cutting the spring perches off with your choice of cutting implement. I started with a Dremel to slice through the welds, and it sucked. A lot. I moved to an angle grinder to facilitate the spring perch's removal.
Step 3A Start to realize what a huge pain these things are to build.
Step 4 Now that the perch is removed, you need to make clearance for the sleeve to fit. Whip out your trusty angle grinder and grind away. I periodically would try to slide the sleeve down so I could grind just enough without potentially grinding the area too thin.
Step 4A It was somewhere in this part of the build that I swore to myself that this would be the first and last set of coilovers I'd ever build for a Fox. These will get transferred from car to car as needed.
Step 4B Paint your nice shiny ground down strut housings your choice of colour to prevent rust.
Step 5 Now that the sleeves fit over the top of the housing, you'll notice (hopefully) that the threads for the strut are covered more than is ideal. Again, start grinding, this time on the sleeve. I myself went a bit overboard on this part. You really only need to grind the sleeves down enough to let the strut cap thread on.
Step 6 Assemble all the bits. Sleeves, then struts of your choice, springs, top hat, etc.
Done. Now just install, and adjust to your desired level of somewhat less embarassing ride height.

Spring rates: no idea. Stiff and stiffer probably. I can't remember what Bilsteins they are now. I've had them sitting for about a year

Re: My coilovers... Let me show you them.. (Ian!)

when i posted something almost identical to this, the question came up of spring rates. Someone said most generic coilovers have a spring rate of 500 pounds. the ride quality makes believe this. its not bad, and im on stock shocks. ive been waiting for them to go but they havent after three-four months of driving on them. i used 60 doller ebay specials for a Mk2 for mine. i didnt have to fit the sleeves around the strut housing either; it was a little long but the diameter was almost perfect.
i love the purple springs.
mine are red, when theyre not caked in mud. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Re: My coilovers... Let me show you them.. (OmniGLHLover)

When I had mine built, they put 300# in the front and 200 in back with Koni adj.sports and it was stiff on the soft setting and even more so cranked.500# has got to rattle your teeth.

wait a second, forget the coilovers. I want to know more about the side exit exhaust.
Were you able to order that from TT or did that kinda BFH behind the exhaust play a part?

The coil overs do look nice though.

Re: (manboy)

Because the previous owner of my now crushed white '88 thought it was a good idea to pay for a stainless TT exhaust and then proceed to cut the muffler off and attach a straight pipe since it wasn't loud enough. I just finished cutting it so it exits in front of the rear wheel. I figure it's going to be real loud.
