Cuising at 75 on the highway with the AC on and "pop" - severe power loss and CEL flashing, by the time I got it to the right shoulder, it was dead. Called VW roadside assist and they told me 1.5 hours before a tow truck could arrive! Anyway - its diagnosed as the main ECU failure and will be replaced under the powertrain warranty. The car has 51k miles on it and is totally stock. Just an alert for all you 2.0T drivers out there. I'll post more if new info comes up. At least they gave me a Toaureg as a loaner!

Re: GLI ECU Meltdown (Battleship)

Sorry for the long wait on the update - I was on vacation last week. They had the car for the whole week and replaced the ECU and checked a bunch of other sensors (crank position, ignition coils, etc..). So, I picked it up late Saturday on my way home from vacation and it was a very hot day and the AC was on, so I didn't notice the remaining problem until I hit the highway. When I got on the power, it sounded like it had a ***** beer-can exhaust and it was all noise, but no go. Left it in the garage all weekend and started it this morning to take it back and it ran fine at first, then reverted to the same issue! While on the way to the dealer, the CEL cam on and the performance of the car actually improved! Anyway, they diagnosed it as 3 of the 4 ignition coils being bad and are replacing. Not sure how that was missed last week

WOW The only thing that comes to mind is WTF

...and a completely clueless dealer. No one ever bothers to troubleshoot anything anymore. They just start replacing boxes.

Re: GLI ECU Meltdown (BumbleBeeJBG)

So I picked it up last night and all seemed well until half way home it threw another CEL and power was fluctuating again! I noticed if I brought the tach above 4k rpm, it sounded like the turbo was chattering. SO back in to dealer this morning and the car drove great on the way there (CEL still on). They diagnosed it again and now they are getting turbo failure codes! The saga continues.
Its funny because I was planning to get rid of the car as I pile the miles on fairly quickly, but this was so trouble free up to this point, I decided to get a Warranty Direct extended coverage to 100k. I hope it gets fixed right as I do like the car and its balance between performance, comfort and efficiency.

.. i dont know.. that dealership .. i dont think they know what they are doing..

Re: (x9t)

Diagnosis: Blown turbo. They will have the car for 3 days to order/replace the turbo. Hey, even if that's not the right fix, they will have replaced most of the expensive electronic/moving parts!

damn! this has got to be the craziest thing i've ever heard

Seriously man... if it still has issues, find another dealer to get service... these guys are clearly clueless.

Re: (GruvDone)

Well - I got it back last week and in addition to the stuff mentioned above, they also replaced the Cat and the Diverter valve (over/under boost codes). It now feels great and a little more powerful than before - hopefully its not still in an overboost mode!
They scratched my l/f fender and my steering wheel is not sitting centered anymore. They offered to fix/paint the fender and align the car. I will fix the scratch myself (free touch up paint), but will take them up on the alignment. WTF could they have done to knock the steering wheel position out? The alignment feels fine (not drifting when I take my hands off the wheel).
