Definitely potential in that front end, but the back is just DISGUSTINGGGG, swapping just the front end to the "regular" MKIV would be very interesting

this is just like the new 'new beetles'.... They got a face lift in 2006, but are still the ol' MKIV chassis underneath.

Oh and the new 'new beetle' has a 2.5 in it. Depending on the market, it wouldn't surprise me to see that in the '08 City models.

I would be surprised.
This car is supposed to compete with various other city cars that we get up here, so having the minimal fuel consumption is absolutely necessary. Most of the cars that the city is competing against qualify for government rebates due to their high efficiency, the city does not, so I think the entire purpose of bringing this face-lifted version was to make buying the vw city models more attractive (so you are no longer getting a car with a design that is 8 years old).

They are common here in the Southwest. They come across the border. Just go to VW of Mexico website and you will see VW model line-up not available in the States.

If thats the case, then it should come out with the Diesel Engine. If it does, I'll be the first one buying the car !
I love the 1.9L engine !
