... and the owner called back.
Silver 1980 Rabbit Diesel
188,000 kms
No accidents, no dings, no dents.... MINT.
How much?
"At least 6" he says.
Awesome, I just scored a deal. This car is mint. I was ready to pay about $1,800 for it.
He then clarifies - "Six thousand"
I laugh at him, and hang up. Still right pissed. What the hell is he thinking, no old bucket VW is worth $6,000 bucks!
Anyway, that's my story of almost getting another rabbit. I shall continue to be VWless.

Re: Saw a mint condition rabbit on the side of the road and left a note... (Speedemon)

You laughed?
You're mad because he won't "give" it to you, when you're the one who left a note in the first place?
Next time try being polite: "Thanks for calling back. It sure is nice, but that's more than I'm willing to pay".

serioulsy though, no need to be an ass about it....guess what? the DO sell for that much

what if the motor craps on the dude next week and he decides to off it for $500...is he gonna let you know? HA!

Re: Saw a mint condition rabbit on the side of the road and left a note... (VWralley)

maybe he was just responding to your note, but not wanted to sell it really for anything under $6k...

Sorry, maybe I should have been more elaborate.
I was caught off guard with the high price and choked, chuckled, and then went on into a lengthy conversation and wished him luck with the car. Quite polite. I'm not an ass, but I play one on the internet

Now I'm pissed that he wouldn't give me the car, yes. It was mint, I wanted it

Nope, no old bucket VW is worth $6k. But this sounds like a mint VW, not a bucket VW

Oh, and I could have understood you if it was one of those "I have painted my car, put a bodykit on it, now it's suddenly worth twice as much as I paid for it"-owners. Doesn't sound like it, though.

Cheers, WWR.

Re: (WackyWabbitRacer)

I would have laughed, too.
I had a local guy try to sell me an Oettinger 16v. (Sans intake and fueling).
5k. I laughed at him.

I dont know, I might pay 6K for the ****ty splitty if it ever went up for sale.

Re: Saw a mint condition rabbit on the side of the road and left a note... (evil_brother1)

it's worth whatever the highest paying buyer is willing to pay for it. Would I pay $6k for a Rabbit that's not built how I want it? No. But I gaurantee I'll spend more than $6k getting my GTi to how I want it to be eventually.

Re: Saw a mint condition rabbit on the side of the road and left a note... (Hydrokool)

I understand its mint... but 6k thats a lot of money....
for 6k there is fully swapped caddys in the classifieds with coils and money left over...

Re: Saw a mint condition rabbit on the side of the road and left a note... (35i 2000)

$6k for a diesel pickup...yes. For a diesel rabbit....no. Its probably one of those deals where he doesnt want to sell it so ya throw a crazy number out and see what happens. I used to get asked all the time if I wanted to sell my corrado and my responce was always, "Sure, $10K", knowing it would never sell for that much.

your title says "mint" but you call it an old bucket.
an 87 syncro vanagon went for 39,100 today on ebay.

That syncro is a bucket of ca$h.

Re: Saw a mint condition rabbit on the side of the road and left a note... (Speedemon)

any car is oonly worth as much as anyone is willing to pay. it could be a "one of six cars like it in existence". but if nobody is willing to pay more than 200 bucks for it than it is only worth 200 bucks.
