"I'm at my dealer getting an oil change. I never expected this car to go this many miles. The mileage today is 595,000. I drive it approx. 10000 miles per month as an independent courier out of Las Vegas. The mileage is 99% highway miles. Yesterday I squeezed 48 mpg out of it doing 65 mph most of the day without the a/c on. The weather has been really nice here. I have replaced the IMA battery once. Other than that it's been routine maintenance only at my dealer. I love this car."

So, the batteries DO fail within the lifespan of the car unlike what some people claim. That's interesting... I wonder how well they will last in colder climates, with wildly varying temps and crappy weather such as here, then. That kind of stuff kills other batteries, so...
I'd be curious to know what mileage he changed the battery at, since it doesn't specify. Not bad, anyway... Though, I'll take it with a grain of salt, being on Honda's site and all.

I can't wait for the following inevitable posts:
48 mpg at 65 mph w/ a/c? He's lying.
One battery pack replacement? But CNW Marketing swears he should have gone through 6 battery packs. He's lying.

No, the batteries just last forever and ever.

And being on Honda's website means that the numbers are probably verified you ninny.

I'd like a workable explanation on how 600,000 miles is a "typical lifespan" of a car.
I'll wait. This should be good.
In the meantime, that means he got 300,000 miles out of his battery pack. How many miles did you get out of your first Century's engine again?

Take that hybrid haters.

They still suck!

Give me a TDi driven the same way, and you will find a much happier consumer. Saftey/feel/fit/finish/options do not compare. TDi FTW.

I've heard people claim that the batteries would last as long as the car, which appears to be wrong. Cold and massive changes in temperature also kills batteries, so the climate thing is a valid question to bring up.
The fact that it's on the Honda site could also mean it's merely marketing and PR. I've done the PR thing, I know how it works...

It doesn't say that he got 300,000 miles out of it, he also has mostly highway mileage which means it mostly runs on the gas engine, right?
I'll ignore your trollings, because that's irrelevant, and fallacious.

How many cars last 600,000 miles in the first palce? Show me some 600,000 mile 'merican cars on the original engine.

Re: 600,000 mile Civic Hybrid (jacobyb)

Yeah that whole "Show me some American cars that can do that!" line is pretty bogus. Theres a lot of cars that, when put under the situation this guy's Civic was put in, would easilly hit 600K with maintenance.
As for DenCo, ANSWER THE FREAKING QUESTION: How many miles did you get out of your Buick Century before the 3100 went belly up?
As for 300K on his battery pack, that was an average based on total milage driven. 2 batter packs, 600K miles = 300K miles between packs.
And thats conservative. If his 2nd one is still good, the average is even higher, which means you just shot your own opinion in the foot.
You also just proved you don't know how the Civic Hybrid works, which means you are even less qualified to comment. The Civic Hybrid's battery is almost always in use, whether in the city or the highway. Its used as an electric supercharger, and on the highway it is constantly being used and recharged based on hills and loads.
I know this because unlike you, I have actually driven both a Prius and a Civic Hybrid.

Re: 600,000 mile Civic Hybrid (2000JettaGLXVR6)

A couple of years ago, I could've gone through the company fleet and snap pics of almost EVERY odometer. They were all 1999-2003 GM and Ford products and quite a few in the 800k Kms (500k miles) and on the original powertrain/drivetrain.
The old Dodge Spirit I had before the Century was retired with over 300k (converted to miles) and still going strong, minus the Ultradrive transmission that had work done on it, even though it WAS THE ORIGINAL.

And I've heard people claim that they're Jesus. Luckily, some of us know better than to take everything that we read on the interwebs at face value.
As far as the PR thing goes, yeah you've done it, but I don't think you know how it works. You see whining about how people praise imports and bash GM isn't PR.
BTW, those Prius taxi cabs up north in Canada are pushing 250,000 miles with minimal maintenance.

Why? It's relevant HOW? It had a DEFECT, for one thing, and has NOTHING to do with this topic or anything I said.

BC is hardly the most extreme, or harshest of climates...
