I know I saw it here somewhere, but I can't find it under the search for some reason. Someone had posted some really comprehensive instructions for installing a GIAC chip. I know it is pretty straight forward, but a nice set of instructions can go a long way if I run into any problems. Anyone know where I can find the link? Thanks in advance for your help. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
BTW, I literally just got my chip delivered to my desk here at work, so I am dying to get out of here and get this baby installed.

Re: GIAC Installation Instructions? (VikingVR6GTI)

Only problem with the link is that the new GIAC chip has an encrypter and the one in the link doesn't! I have 3 words to describe installation with the encrypter...patience patince patience!
Also, disconnect your battery - It doesn't say that in the instructions.

Re: GIAC Installation Instructions? c

I installed the chip last night and it was very easy once I figured out that I wasn't putting the chip in in the right position. The hardest part was just getting those screw clips out to take out the gutter plastic covering the ECU.
Problem is, now my CEL is on. Anyone know why this might be? Do I have to take it to the stealership to get it turned off or is there an easier/cheaper fix? Thanks for your input.

Re: GIAC Installation Instructions? c (VikingVR6GTI)

So I went to Autozone and they scanned the CEL for me and tried to erase it, but the CEL didn't turn off. Anyone have any idea what might be the problem? Did I get the wrong chip or something like that? Help!!

Re: GIAC Installation Instructions? c (schrickedVR6)

Would that work even though the guy at Autozone tried to clear it through his diagnostics tool?
I thought I read somewhere that there are two types of ECU codes and that the wrong chip in the wrong ECU will turn on the CEL and you can't turn it off unless you get the right chip in there? Or did I dream that?

Is the idle really lumpy?
If so, disconnect the battery, reconnect, and start the motor, allowing it to idle for a few minutes. If the CEL is still on, turn the ignition on and off a half dozen times - this should clear the CEL.

No, the idle is smooth as silk. It was lumpy at first, but that has since corrected itself. I tried disconnecting and re-connecting the battery several times, and that didn't work. I'm thinking I might have been sent the wrong chip?
