Depends on your needs and wants. If you have a family (kids) or are planning on having a family soon then I would go with the Passat. If you are a tall or larger person then the Passat is a better choice as well.
The Jetta is more sporty and more of a personal vehicle imo.
We have owned both. My son drove the Jetta and it was flawless. We traded it for a Beetle just for something different.

Does anyone know which is better between a Passat and a Jetta? I have a Passat now but I am thinking about getting a newer Jetta.
Any advice would help, I do not want to make the wrong decision.

I was deciding between a GTI, GLI & Passat....
guess which won?
THe only things my Passat doesn't have which would have been nice to have are: HIDs and a sunroof. However, the sunroof is an easy sacriface, because I wanted the 6-speed manual more.

Whichever you buy, be sure to shop around for an extended warranty. Most are only out there to rip you off, but I hear there's one that's not.

(For those with post counts higher than 5, that one will make sense when you check the OPs created topics.

I've had my passat for a little more than 3 years and recently started to receive annoying phone calls telling me my warranty was going to expire. I started doing research and found that the choices were overwhelming.
Until finally found a company that was willing to give me a good product at a resonable price. That company was warranties4wheels.com, they answered all my questions and got me coverage for a price I could afford.
That said, I'm sure they can warranty a Jetta, too.

There's a new wolfie with 2.0T, and a 6MT or DSG, it's limited production.
Sit in and drive both! The rear room in the passat seems HUGE compared to our jetta.

No soup for you!

Re: (E36BMW)

You need to sit in and drive both. I was much more attracted to the Passat, but felt more comfortable in the Jetta price range. When I finally got to the dealer to test drive both, I found that I HAD to have the Passat.
I'm 6'4", and just could not get comfortable behind the wheel of the Jetta. I had plenty of leg room, but felt cramped width wise in comparison to the Passat. Rear legroom also seemed dramatically better in the Passat, which was also important to me.
In order to offset the price difference, I shopped around for a brand new 2007 (vs. a 2008), and got one heck of a deal on a new 07' Passat.
Another important factor to me was having the 2.0T rather than the 2.5. In order to get this in the Jetta, you had to step up to the GLI, which was in the same price range as the Passat. Now with the news of the Wolfsburg Jetta (complete with 2.0T and DSG), I would have a much more difficult decision to make.
At the end of the day, I think I made the right choice with my Shadow Blue B6 http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Yep, I drove a Jetta for a while at some point before the Passat. The killer attribute of the Passat, that too rarely gets mentioned in this forum, is the interior space. I was originally looking at A4s and 3-series, and all felt like they were the size of the Jetta. If you do a lot of distance driving (I do) the extra few inches in all directions is really nice.

Well to be really helpful. . .
Do as advised, check the Seating (comfort) of both cars.
If you want some degree of reliability, and fuel Economy, hold off until the 3rd Quarter, and look, seriously, at the the Jetta CRD Diesel.
(from the post on the B6 Forum, compare to the A5 Forum, I would say the Jetta is more reliable)

Re: Passat VS. Jetta (Drdrisk)

Hi, I'm came from a GLI IMO there are complete different cars, the Jetta is a small car with a decent inside space but the Passat is a medium sedan nice equiped and with much more space in the rear, different stance and a luxury look.
Try to make a test and good luck with your decision
