Who has installed their changer. Through my research I have found that I can use the following:
Panasonic CX-CP88 (8 Disc) changer with a 12 pin adapter Periferal VWPIL8A.
or
Panasonic CX-DP610 (6 Disc) changer with a 12 pin adapter Periferal VWPIL6A.
Each work with the factory stereo. The disadvantage to the 8 Disc is that I heard sometimes discs 7 and 8 will have trouble and you have to reset the changer. Anyone had this experience?? The disadvantage with the 6 Disc is simply the price, it is $50.00 more - go figure????
Now has anyone installed the changer under the front seat and run the cable from the stereo to the changer under the carpet? Looking for time savers, tips, pitfalls, etc.....
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks
Drive on, just broke 4K.

CD changer install - some answers

Ok- I just did this on my '02 MV. There is a ton of room under the dash, alng the passenger door edge, and under the passenger seat to route the cable, and install the changer. I did the 6 Disc Panasonic from http://www.cdchangersonline.com (they are real nice folks - and I have bought changers from the before for various Audis.)
Some caveats-
1. Make sure you have the removal keys for the radio - they run $3 or so at a dealer. Without them your install will grind to a halt.
2. For whatever reason my CD changer needed a good ground to be recognized.. I ran a wire from seat heater ground to the case of the changer. Without this ground wire, the radio refused to recognize the changer.
3. Dealer prep for CD Changer - I did so using http://www.ross-tech.com's VAG software, and the following VW tech bulletin: http://cory.charltonfamily.org/gti/vwtechcontent/pdf/v919909.pdf Note that the Eurovan was 09403 as CD Enabled in code block 56. Also note, that this made no difference <- the changer worked whether the radio was 'prepped' or not.
4. Finally - the mounting of the changer is a bit difficult.. I ended up just using velcro and positioning the cartridge near the rear cut out in the seat bracket.

Good luck!

Re: CD changer install - some answers (aperkins)

Thanks for the information. Actually I'm currently in Boston "Digging" your new I-90, I-93. Sorry for the delay.
Anyways, thanks for the info. I should have the changer this weekend and will start installing. One question, why did you choose the passenger seat, rather than the driver seat?
Thanks again
