By tradition, I think first anniv is wood.
On that note, I bought my wife, back 9 years ago on our 1st, an antique foot stool, to keep with tradition, but also dropped a diamond bracelet on her too.
(Didn't want to sleep on the couch for only getting her a foot stool.)
