Block pn 06A 103 021C. I have no idea where to find the engine code besides the head, or timing belt cover. Thanks for the help.

first three letter/numbers of the part number you posted. 06A...
look on a machined surface along where the trans bolts up to it, on top to the right of the oil filter housing if looking at the front of the motor.... letter code should be there...

UH all I could see to the right of the filter is a cast in the block number: 19G

OK That area on my block is just a casting. Nothing there! Does it even matter?

The only significant fitment difference between 06A 1.8T blocks is that engine code AWM (Passat/A4) have a machined boss for mounting the A/C bracket on the passenger side. If you are using the block in any other application, it doesn't matter.
Be sure it is not a 2.0 block- it should have the threaded fitting in the back for the turbo coolant feed.
