(First TCL post... wish me luck!)
I was visiting a friend in Oregon and while I driving her car, we ended up needing gas. So we pull up and I'm about to hop out when she reminds me there is no self-serve in Oregon: it's a state law.
But she asked me, 'What's so great about pumping your own gas?'
And... I... couldn't answer her! Being a Southern California native, I've pumped gas myself for as long as I can remember. But what's so great about it? I could just as easily pull into a full service station and have them do it for me. And yet, I still pump my own gas.
Is it some rite of car ownership? Something you can do to take care of your car? Keeping everything done to your car in your own hands (control issues)?
Anyone else have any opinions on the matter? Anyone do self-serve religiously, or always let the service station guys hook you up? Anyone in a full-only state who wishes they could pump it themselves? Why _do_ we pump our own gas...?
(I'm sure for a lot of people price is a factor... but I have to assume in full-service-only places, the price is higher than it would be self-serve, you just don't have a choice)
