Your profile lists a 2007 Rabbit. Doesn't that take regular gasoline?

Pump it myself! What do I need, someone to check my oil too? Christ.

In Oregon it's state law because it creates thousands of jobs for people. There gas doesn't cost anymore than anywhere else as a result, but it helps their economy tremendously! http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
I myself have only had my gas pumped for in Oregon...otherwise I do it myself. In fact I haven't seen a full service station in years.

Three cheers for the government creating excess, useless jobs. That definitely helps the economy.

Re: Gas: Pump it yourself or get it pumped? (Kerosel)

I prefer to pump my own gas, it's just kind of awkward for me having somebody do that for me and handle my credit card for that long. Also, I feel like I am a lot more careful. I always felt weird about getting gas in N. Jersey because it's also state law there but gas prices are so much cheaper there that it's worth putting up with it...damn PA gas taxes. However it can kind of suck getting gas when there are lines[such as on NJ Turnpike] because sometimes you'll have to sit there and wait for the guy to come back just to get your credit card/money.

ive never even seen a gas station that pumps for you in texas. the pumps just has if you need it honk your horn twice
Image
never seen it been done tho

There's a "full" service Chevron in Hallsville, Texas. I stopped there once for the novelty, but other than that, I rather prefer to be in full control. Correct grade, proper insertion, spilling gas over the body, when to stop, am I being charged correctly, will the monkey strip the threads of the filler cap...I don't trust people anymore to get such simple operations right.
Of course any deluded Oregonitian will tell you wonderful their law is, and how special they all are, and what not.

I'm not. Why would I chance needless dripping on my cars paint? Paper towel every time. Every pump has the toweling next to the bucket of window cleaner.

Wait. So you go nuts if gas drips on your paint, but you'll wipe it off with a paper towel? Maybe you should read up on detailing. The gasoline that air dries on your paint once you begin driving may be less damaging then running awful, paint marring paper towels over your paint. http://****************.com/smile/emthdown.gif

I am not wiping it off with the towel.

I'm not an idiot. The towel is there to absorb any drip that fall out of the tip of the nozzle. The toweling sits right on the nozzle; never touching the car. I question your intelligence even posing the idea of wiping the car.

my sincerest apologies, desmond. you couls see how someone might have thought thats what you meant, though.

In the past year, no i dont let them pump gas after one attendant decided it would be nice to overfill my gas tank and have gas pourin out the side of the car. What i hate is they always top it off to nearest dollar.
Some though take offense and look at me funny but it's my car and if i choose to pump it, so be it. Figured they could help someone else. Also, i find it useful to be familar with gas pumps, otherwise if you never have and run into a state that doesn't have full serve, you'll look like an idiot waiting in the car like some my friends who stop in PA at gas stations, thinkin someone gonna come out and pump gas for them. Silly.

Re: (VWturbonium)

Haha, the paranoia and misinformation in this thread is entertaining.
After reading this hread, I guess I am one of the lucky few that has never had gas spilled on my car, my paint scratched, or my gas cap left open. Oh the huge manatee!
And BTW, the law is the way it is because that is what the NJGRA has lobbied for, not because the lawmakers are trying to create jobs.
As for me I have lived in places with full serve and self serve, and generally speaking I usually don't care that much. If its busy I would prefer to do it myself, but then its pretty darn easy to just have it done when its not busy. When I lived in Montreal and had to get gas when it was -10C outside I would have loved to have full serve, though.

Only in states that don't even trust their citizens with a gas pump.

And in states with enough lazy/entitled people to create enough of a demand for full service stations to exist even when self serve are common and legal. See: NY

Re: (GiacGtiAgain)

personally i don't want someone pumping my gas for any one of the following reasons:
1. wrong gas
2. scratch paint
3. overfill spillage
4. just-plain-not-careful spillage
5. forget to put gas cap back on

The only time I have had "full service" was in Canada(near Toronto). I was shocked when the "attendant" grabbed the "filler/nozzle" from me and stated that I was breaking the law.

You got "hosed"

my friend, there is no such law up here. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
