standard on S models optional on non S models. Are you trying to determine if the car above is an S?

No. I am looking at an 81 S Cirrus Grey car that does not have a passenger side mirror, but has all the looks of an S (seats, red badges, front spoiler, molding stripes,...). I share your opinion, but I haven't found anything official that states that clearly.

Re: 81 S - Passenger Mirror question (bigtavo)

Jeff,
My car is not an S, but does have the p/s mirror. Does the car you're looking at have red striped or silver stripe bumpers? What about the front spoiler? Also, I'm not sure about this, but didn't the S cars have different door cards? And did any of the S cars have woodgrain dashes/clusters?

Re: 81 S - Passenger Mirror question (Lord_Verminaard)

s models came with the front zender air dam, black dash bezel, no wood grain stripe on dash, black above tails vs. chrome, red badge grill, dual mirrors, red or grey striped seats and i believe black door cards
have you checked to see if the door had been replaced?

Dealer installed option. All MK1's have the hardware present under the sheet metal. So if you ever did want to install a P/S mirror all you need to do is drill two holes CAREFULLY and thats it. All the threaded bits are just underneath.
I did this on my '80 back in the day.

Re: 81 S - Passenger Mirror question (GoKraut)

I know that many of the Rabbits had the holes already in the p/s door, w/ two small dots filling them in, if they didn't have a p/s mirror. I do recall my '76.5 Super Scirocco did not have a p/s mirror, but did have the mount on the inside of the door.
