x2...although maybe better worded by saying to rotate the diff up in the air. This will allow the axle flanges to clear the block.
I remember the first time I did this too. I was like WTF...it's totally free and I still can't get the damn thing out.

I just did this, so they are right. You must detach all your shift linkage, unplug the wiring to the reverse back up switch, remove the bolt from the transmission mount to the right rear of the engine compartment and then remove the starter and another bolt (or two) on the front mount. Rotate the transmission so the differential comes up and then you will have to shake (if yours is like mine) the trans back from the motor. If you haven't already done so, make sure you support the back of the motor to keep it from dropping when you release the front motor mount. You can either use a transverse engine support bar (home made or store bought), or get some sort of support under the motor.
