I'm buying a 1997 VW Cabrio tomorrow. Not only is this my first VW, but its also my first car. I feel as though i've lucked out to get my hands on this thing. My favorite thing about becoming a cabby owner is it seems as though all cabby owners LOVE their car. I'm expecting the same feeling towards my car, the only thing is is that its pretty much stock everything. It is an automatic 1997 with only 68k miles so i'm happy about that, but it needs to have some flare added to it... so, i'll hopefully be back here tomorrow to post pics of how it looks now.
So far the only plans i have for it is my favorite color scheme... Yellow car with black accents. I've always loved yellow and black cars and i feel as though this cabby would look perfect in this scheme... other than that, i have no clue what i should do with the thing. So, i was hoping some of you could maybe post some cabby's around the same year as mine for some inspiration. Thanks.

Hi, Welcome to the 'tex!

And now, a pleasant tropical rain shower for your parade.
STOP!! Don't buy an automatic! Keep shopping for a manual, they're easy to learn, no excuses, they're much more fun and they're far more dependable. Oh, better fuel economy too, not that that matters.

Re: New 1997 Cabby (Lisauce)

I've calmed down a little now even though i'm still pissed i dont have my car...
Anyways, the seller of the car doesn't have hubcaps on the car... so she offered to give me crappy wal-mart ones she bought, so of course i politely denied... so i've decided that'll be first thing i do with the car... and since im planning on using my yellow and black scheme i was wonderin if anyone knows of a good website or 2 to buy yellow rims from.

Re: New 1997 Cabby (Lisauce)

Hey, I was just out at Hickam a few weeks ago. First, you are so lucky to be living in HI. Hickam is the most beautiful base I've ever seen, and HI ain't bad either. Lots of VW action from what I could tell.
About body kits, that is a very subjective thing. Most VW owners' tastes tend to distance them from the rest of the 'importz' crowd, and sometimes there is outright mockery of VW's that are overdone. Before you go and spend a lot of money, I would spend some time lurking in the MKIII forums. It has about 50X the action of the Cabrio forum, and you will get lots and lots of ideas on what you like by seeing what's been done. Your car, in case you didn't already know, is classified as a MKIII.
Second, I would spend some time in the Regionals => Hawaii forum. No doubt your local guys will be able to steer you in the right direction too.
Welcome to the world of V-dubs! I have three at the moment, and the Cabrio is my favorite too.

Don't turn it into a Honda

I second the forum suggestion... You'll learn alot in the Mk3 forum, but the Cabby forum is still a good place to be.
'Course, I'm a Rabbit guy, so my experience with Mk3's is a little... Non-existent

Well, not really a "body kit" like a honda... i was thinking more or like a sweet bumper and side skirts and what not... like the sweet ones with flaps... just didnt know what all that would be called... but we'll see, cause im buying it here in a little bit so i dont even know exactly what im workin with yet...

I will be moving overthere soon and will be taking my cabrio as well. See there!!!

There were definitely NOT enough Cabrios in Hawaii, at least not that I saw. I figured it would be loaded with them. Lots of VW buses though
