Hello,
I just picked up a 1984 Rabbit Convertible this past weekend and it's been a while since I've had a water cooled VW. What are you guys finding is the best source for parts?
I'm certainly in need of but not limited to the following:
shocks
struts
strut bearings
dash trim-cracked from thief stealing radio
rear wheel fender rock guards-missing
tail lights
side molding trim clips
pedal pads
oil temp gauge, face is cracked
fan knob
fresh air intake hose assembly beneath air filter box
headlight grill trim
grill clips
stock style antenna
Nothing really major. It's been about 10 years since I've had a water cooled, so with the onslaught on the web, thought there may be some really good places to buy items from that you guys have used and are happy with.
thanks for any and all help,
Gary

Some of your needed items can be found in the Vortex Cabriolet Classifieds and/or on eBay (tail lights, dash bezel, etc.).

Re: Newbie questions (1966vwbus)

you can also find some stuff, may be more pricey but its worth a look, at http://germanautoparts.com. good luck and welcome!

Welcome, Gary
I was through Round Rock last weekend... twice. Picked up a new/old BMW R65 in Austin that needs just a little love.
I'm a regular customer of AutoHausAZ. They're out in Arizona. Find their prices and shipping - free with $50 buy - to be competitive. Also, check the Vortex FAQ pages for list of vendors. Check 'em out before you spend that hard-earned cash.

Re: Newbie questions (montmil)

Welcome aboard! Kammy's site above is a wealth of reliable information and supplier links and both Monte and Kenneth's part sources are excellent to work with, as well.
Some additional places I've dealt with that give consistently good results:
http://stores.ebay.com/Mk1-Aut...QtZkm moogie2498's Ebay store... Good for NOS parts and occasionally some dealer-only items (like my speedometer cable gear found yesterday)...
http://stores.ebay.com/VW-CABB...QtZkm strategic-one's Ebay store... Good for various, hard-to-find trim pieces, some of the weatherstripping and more.
http://www.carmadillo.com/ A variety of parts... I recently found they had the best price on the axle halfshaft I needed.
http://www.rockauto.com/ Frequently excellent prices and consistently good service/shipping for basic parts.
I recall several recent posts regarding the side trim clips being found for the most reasonable price at NAPA.
Good luck and welcome to the addiction...

That list is incredibly out of date and does not contain many vendors that are now listed here: http://www.cabby-info.com/parts.htm .

Re: Newbie questions (kamzcab86)

Sounds great, thanks for the info. I've spent the last 2 nites up till 2am working on the Convertible, my son has named it, "Hopper" which I think is pretty cool.
I'm busy compiling my list, getting it prioritized and then I'll start parting with my cash..
thanks again,
Gary
