In traffic which is usually back and forth to work D is great. Also on the highway D works just fine with the cruise on. But when I'm off and now that it's warmer out, the windows go down and shifter goes into S and I just let the car do what it was meant to do PERFORM!

Re: (stinghat)

Untill the car reaches normal operating temperature - D
Stop and go traffic - D
Normal driving - Manual Mode
I pretty much never use sport mode. I had an Audi A3 DSG for about 2 years (hence the name AudiMark) and i used sport mode probably twice during the time I had the car. If your going to put it in sport mode, you might as well just manually shift it. At least thats my opinion.

Re: (Trade-N-Games)

If the paddles weren't so damn small and if they were stationary I could see myself using them more frequently. When I want to go into manual mode I typically use the stick. I use "D" when driving on the highway and in stop and go traffic because the "S" mode downshifts are too abrupt for my taste...unless I'm drving in a very spirited manner but then that I default back to manual mode

To those who think "S" mode shifts randomly....you couldnt be further from the truth.
The whole point of "S" mode is to keep you in the power band no matter your speed. You may be able to shift at about 200-300 in manual, but if you take a nice corner in "S" it will down shift perfectly for you and then when you go to lay on the gas you'll be right in the sweet spot of the power band. Not to mention 95% of the time it will likely shift more inteligently than a person in manual mode.

I'm in D or S more than 99% of the time, but I often override with the paddles. The DSG makes the right decision most of the time and I know it well enough that when it would make an error, I override it with the paddles temporarily.

99% paddles after it's warmed up. You could take away the shifter's D and S as far as I'm concerned.

Re: (Trade-N-Games)

Don't know if I am the only one to mix up modes.
I use all modes but I get in trouble when I think I am in one mode but I am not. If I forget I am in D and think I am in M and slam the shifter forward I push it into N. Thank god there is a lock out for R or else I would really be in trouble.. Or I have forgotten I was in M as I take off and overrev it. Of course by the time it gets to 5k I realize I am not in D.

I do that at least once a week. It's always when somebody else is in the car, because I'm used to driving by myself in M mode, and then sometimes when I'm driving with somebody else I just default to D mode and promptly forget. It's quite embarrassing, but also very funny

this happens to me sometimes.
i drive in M probably 95% and use the shifter and paddles half and half.
i use D when the car is cold or it's in stop-start traffic.
i almost never use S.

Re: always use DSG (keegsvdub)

Choice is a beautiful thing... http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
- I use S 90% of the time
- I would use M more but those cops are always lurking...
- I use D when I am with the wife, or trying to conserve fuel.
- I over ride with the M sometimes - I do that when I want to get a rise out of my wife, she always says "WHATS WRONG WITH THE CAR?"
