There is a huge demand for cars in Venezuela and very little offer, at this time the Dollar-Bolivar exchange rate is pretty good and a group of friends and myself have been thinking of importing some trucks for ourselves (to keep, not to resale)...
Anyways my budget has to be below 23.5K (60% tax to import) if possible, the car has to come from a dealer in South Florida and has to be an '08 model, we were thinking of getting 4x4s (given the high fuel prices we think we might come out getting bargains)...
Any suggestions, pointers... The WinnAr gets a virtual Bagel!

I have been considering cars as well, ie: Miatas and the such, but 4x4s have a higher resale here I have considered the XTerra, the Jeep XJ and the FJ Cruiser which is over the budget though, anyways...
Begin! http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Also, if the vehicle is below 20K the tax drops to 50%...

I've been in a waiting list since September for a SWB Prado, or for an FJC or for a Hilux V6...
Non of them have been available... Unless you pay a 60%-100% "commission"...

Wait.. so new cars are hard to find, or is it used cars? If the supply/demand thing is that far out of whack, I'm surprised the dealers don't import more vehicles.
And while I know "used" is a bad thing in many countries due to how people buy new and never take it back for dealer service, slightly used vehicles can be very good deals and very good vehicles in the US.

Used are more expensive than new because cars are in such high demand... You buy a new car at say 100 and you re-sell at 200...

Nah, it has to be brand new, it must be shipped directly from the dealer to the Miami docks... That´s what makes it kind of tough...

Oh- ok.
On big trucks- the 4x4 F-150 is both a good truck and has good rebates.
If you want a quad cab- look at the Explorer Sport track. I think it has a $4k rebate in Florida now, putting a 4.6 4x4 XLT model at $24k (invoice+dest-rebate). Get a dealer to give you their holdback, and you could get one for $23.5k.
On midsize trucks- the Frontier and Tacoma are also good options due to their powerful V6s, but I'd take the V8 Sport Trac over both for this price.
On cheap cheap- the Ford Ranger with the decent but aging 4.0 V6 can be had for a low price ($3500 rebate) and is a durable truck, though it is also lacking refinement compared to the current competition.
On the SUV side- a Suzuki Grand Vitara is a good durable real SUV for a low price.
Some other options:
Kia Sorento. the new 3.8 V6 makes it a much better driving SUV.
(cute utes):
Mitsubishi Outlander.
Hyundai Santa Fe.
Toyota Rav4.
Ford Escape/Mazda Tribute.
Honda CRV.
Nissan Rogue.

Other suggestions such as cars are welcome as well, I´ve actually considered a bare bones GTI as an option...

A base Mazdaspeed3 and a base 6 speed RX8 both come in at around $22.5k.(RX8 has $3k rebate)
