Uggg....where to begin. I went to start my R32 at about 7pm tonight. My R32 would not start. Im assuming its my battery. My gf comes over and we try to jump start it. I get a start, but my R32 is idling really rough. I take the R32 just for a quick drive around the block. Its just running rough, the revs are hanging high, just doesnt feel good driving. As im about a 150 yards away from the entrance to my apt complex, a symbol starts flashing on the dash ( triangle with a ! in the middle with an arrow circle around it) and a flashing battery light and the car just dies in the middle of the road. We try jumping starting it again, it would start and then just die. This happend about 3 times before it just would not start anymore. Then i hear clicking coming from under the dash. I try getting a battery calling everyone i know but its 12pm and at this time of the night no one can help me

I call roadside, which i find out i still have for a few more months, and they said they will get me a tow. They call back telling me they cant get in touch with anyone. well I cant leave the car in the middle of the road, soooo i push the car by 150yards myself, jumping in and out making sure i can get the ebrake if i need to, and finally get it to a pull off right in front of my complex where it is currently sitting dead. Im just exhausted from pushing it that far all by myself

Im just so pissed right now, wasted my night trying to get my R32 started and atleast leaving her in a safe position for the morning. About to call roadside again so i can get it flatbedded to a dealer by morning.
Just wanted to thank QBN for talking me through a check through of my car and trying to help me dignose the problem all the way from cali

. This is the first issue ive ever had with my R32, maybe a coilpack, dead battery or the starter.
So well see what the issue is, i have no clue why it through a code and is running really rough

I'm just glad this didn't happen in an area u had no clue where you were, ie your solo journey across the country.

Yes im thankful its atleast somewhat safe, it wouldnt have been if i didnt push it all the way to a pull off, it died in the lane of the road leading to my complex and there is no shoulder. I had to push it by myself 150yds to a safe pull off, im quite exhausted, took me an hr or so

Well ill find out exactly what it is in a few hours. Roadside finally got a flatbed here at 4am, car was towed to the dealer and dropped off. We jump started it but the car was running very rough, i had to keep giving it some gas or else the car would die. So well see, first issue ive had with the R

What is this? ABS (i.e. traction control)? Alternator? (I haven't ever had a 'code', so I'm not sure, and it's been so long since I broke the tires loose, I can't even remember what the traction control light looks like). I guess it would make sense if it's the alternator...
Does the radio work? When the car was running/idling rough, were the headlights or dashlights dimming out?

Hey Kevin sorry to hear bro. So did you happen to find out what the issue was?

If the car cranks and turns over it won't be your battery or starter. That flashing icon of yours...I thought flashing meant misfires and therefore coilpacks.

Sorry to hear that mate but yep, glad we have access to someone like QBN..
I'd check your brake light switch also, that thing has been known to cause so many different things. I was @ Laguna (with Finn & the NorCal crew) and when doing out for my 3rd session car was just dead, no cranking or anything.
Finn (he had the newest one) changed the brake light switch and bam, car fired up first time..
Good luck and let us know what you(they) find.. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

The flashing triangle is the traction control and only the traction control. A misfire would be the check engine light flshing. Alternator or battery would cause the battery light to come on. So if the only light that came on was the traction control iot must be something between the tranny and the axles.
Well that is how it is on my Passat so it must not be too different.

The R is at vw right now, just got a call from the service advisor. Hopefully it is just a coilpack, and that why it is running rough. The car didnt turn over, it was just dead. The battery would not hold a charge. The radio would come on, along with my headlight, and flashers when i locked. Hopefully its something as simple as a battery and coilpack

If it wouldn't turn over I'd say bad battery, maybe alternator if it wouldn't hold a charge like you said. You have had many things wired up into that car, maybe a ground or something came loose and drained the battery or it just took a toll on it. Have you ever changed the battery?
Any way, I am hoping for a quick fix. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
