Don't mean to beat a dead horse but I really gotta know, I have an appointment for a Unitronic flash at Rapid Parts and an exhaust build in Keyport. If everything goes well I'll have the same exhaust set up as that other cat from Cali and his magnaflow kit. But now I'm really thiking cams so I need to know if anyone has actually done it. Let me know...

Re: Anyone done cams yet? (PowerDubs)

Thanks for the response I was actually looking for someone with a MkV R but I know it's basically the same. I guess my second question would be if I should go with Techtonics or Schrick?

Re: (Pathfinder2041)

Thats odd that no one's really done it for the mkv since the mkiv has the same engine... right?
I might consider it if it adds more top-end grunt... i feel our cars get a bit weak once you break 95mph or so... would chipping the car help in that department?
Thank in advance...

I believe that the Schrick are slightly better, but are about twice the price of the Techtonics. Notice that Powerdubs has a Techtonics exhaust but Schrick cams.

pricing?

I'd imagine you'd have to do everything to notice a difference. Meaning, intake, exhaust, headers, hi-flow cats, cams, and then finally a chip to optimize everything.
Or you could say F the B.S. and get a turbo.
But I'd like 300 N/A horsepower more than anything. I have a thing for cars that are "all-motor."

yeah for all that your still looking to pay ~$4,000... might as well wait for a turbo kit imo

?!?!? 4k for an R32 turbo will never happen. Minimum 7k. Plus labor costs, unless you do it yourself, which I doubt the majority of people will do.
But you can slap my mother if one ever comes out.

I'd personally cap my "mod money" at 4k for this car anyways - anything over that and I'd feel stupid for not buying something with more potential for more power for cheaper.

EDIT: I'd just buy a Lotus Exige and call it a day.

i am saying after $4k for 50hp you might as well go big and get a turbo... oh and i will need an updated photo of your mother for when the kit comes out

Re: (cheeebs)

I just met your wife for real the other day. She was with my wife; I thought she seemed pretty cool. This confirms it.

yes i want 325 bhp NA if possible, and my wife invites any of you guys to slap my mother. you don't need a reason, she says. just slap her.

(Yes, that's right: Ms. cheeebs and Ms. texasboy. And those ARE their real names!)

Re: (texasboy)

you will have to get aggressive cams instead of 264/260 set up in order to reach the 300+ N/A dream. Powerdubs looks like he is there with all the things he has done to it. With the agressive cam in order to get the most out of high rpms DSG ECU has to be programmed to lift the shift points. Not to mention proper tuning. GIAC did not have anything in the works since noone has acquired software for aftermarket cams yet. We have done this conversation months ago, still at the same place. The cost of cams, software, and the big question marks with DSG programming held me back from this. HPA can program the DSG ECU, for an unknown $ amount. It is a lot of money. Yeah it is safer to be all motor blah blah blah, but by the time the car is done, and several thousands of dollars, there will always be a faster MK5 R32 with TC kit. Is it worth it? That is the question. I would still wait for the nevercoming HPA kit, seems like they have it really hot in the oven.

If the power curve is anything like the MkIV (no reason it would be different really), there's no need to raise the redline beyond 6500 RPM because it makes peak HP right at 6500 RPM. Which actually, is perfect because there's no flat spot before redline. Now, installing really aggressive cams is another story but then you're sacrificing low and mid-range power.
