well im not sure if my clutch is on its way out or not but anyways heres the story:
so all last week i was driving the cabrio because my dad wasnt using it , and before that i was driving the jetta daily, so fast forward to last night when i went to get onto the highway in 3rd gear i steped on the gas at around 3k rpm and the motor just revved up and the car did not accelerate ( clutch slipping) and it slipped like such all the way home. also please note i dont have a buring smell, and the clutch only slips when hot
the wierd thing is last weekend the clutch didnt slip at all, i mean before i let the car sit for the week it grabbed fine ( never slipped)
car is a 98 2.0 w/ 140k miles

could it be the cable going out, i dont dont think i threw a rivet bec i dont drive like an ********. i NEVER pop the clutch and always shift before 4krmp, and never slam gears , im not sure if its the cble bec it grabs so high but it never slipped

Re: (mabbonizio186)

if it was a stretched cable, the clutch would be engaging early, like right as the clutch pedal leaves the floor. If the clutch is still engaging at low rpm, but mushy, and slipping at higher rpm, your main shaft seal is prolly done. Prolly a soaked clutch.. This happened to me last month. Thought my clutch was done, but it was just saturated with gear oil. This was on my 2.0, with 240,xxx miles.

Re: my clutch (mabbonizio186)

Thats the first signs your clutch is going. Mine used to only do it certain times when warm. Then progressively got worst to the point it had to be changed out.. Well I just finished that swap this week and its A LOT better.
You might get a few hundred miles out of that clutch.. but I would probably start gathering some parts for that!

thanks for all the help guys, i looked in the bently and it shows how to check and see if the automatic adjust cable for the clutch is bad, your suppesed to push down on the lever coming out of the trans to see if it has any free play, mine does not, im not sure if i should replace the cable tomorrow or just drop it off at the mehcanic and have the clutch and throw out bearing replaced
