Thanks in advance for any help...
I just got my A4 back after about 2 weeks. I took it to the dealer because I thought the ECU was dead, however I ended up taking it to an APR dealer where they reflashed it and it was fine.
Anyway, I had a whole bunch of vacuum leaks from when I installed my APR TIP. Last night I spent a few hours making sure there were no lines unclamped. Everything is clamped down and although I haven't done the valve stem pressure tester yet I can't imagine how there could be a leak.
So I take the car out this morning and get on it a bit... It was making a screaming noise and hitting 20psi very very quick.
I got on it again and realized there was no diverter valve sound ... there was only, almost like a pop sound.
Just for reference I've got the yellow spring in the Forge 007 DV.
I decided that the DV wasn't working right so I installed the 2 pressure plates that came with it. One on the top of the spring and one on the bottom. Is that correct or no?
I also re-ran the tube from the DV to the FMIC outlet.. I used strong tube that didn't kink so there's no back pressure there.
So after I do that, I take it out for a drive and now I'm only hitting 14psi and losing boost quick and I'm still hearing the screaming which increases with boost (starts at about 7 psi)
It doesn't sound like a dentist drill at all.. it sounds like screaming. I've searched through YouTube videos and I can't find one that makes the same sound.
Also.. when I just rev the car it sounds perfect... you hear the turbo spool and the DV blow-off... but when I get on it I get low boost and a screaming sound with no DV sound other than maybe a flutter sometimes

Stupid question.... but does the pressure test flow after the turbo? I think that's where the leak is because all the vacuum lines are tight and secure

Yep sure does.

Re: (bzflag)

Okay so I pressure tested and got no leaks. The only sound was the air inside the TIP. It didn't make the screaming noise.
I'm stumped... I only get the screaming noise at 7psi and above but my boost hits a wall at 14psi.
Can anyone confirm if the I should have put the plates in the diverter or not? I'd rather not disassemble all the hosing if I don't have to.

Sounds like the turbo is going.
As for the plates in the DV, you only use those to increase the tension of the spring; so, in effect, adding the plates only makes it harder to open the DV, no easier...

I also re-ran the tube from the DV to the FMIC outlet..

The vac source for the DV you moved to the FMIC outlet? It needs to be an intake manifold signal, there's no vac pre throttle, meaning the DV will never open. Your post was unclear but if that's what you did, fix it.

Re: Laundry List of Issues... Please help! (Adam@Unitronic.ca)

I have the vacuum line from the manifold going to the top little nipple on the DV and then the DV is in the tip and also has a hose running from an outlet from my FMIC piping specifically for a DV

Re: Laundry List of Issues... Please help! (phantomstudios)

I'm thinking the DV is either needing a lubrication, one of the seals inside it may be bad (you have to lubricate it often), or possbily the DV is reversed (bottom of can should be installed in TIP.)
The scream sometimes can be the DV letting air past. Also replace the clamps on it if you are unsure about the current ones, mine was letting air past and it looked fine. Do not reuse the spring clamps you remove with pliers.

The DV is brand new... the only thing I've done is put the yellow spring in along with the 2 plates (one on top and one on bottom)
For some reason I want to believe it's something with the diverter valve... as much as I want to go BT I feel like that noise sounds more like air than a broken turbo
What do you mean about spring clamps? Inside the DV? I've never removed any
And it's also worth mentioning that the DV just isn't sounding right when letting off the gas

I was talking about the hose clamps that attach to the DV.

Oh okay.. no I have new clamps on EVERYTHING.. but I appreciate the help.
I'm going to get an APR diverter tomorrow and return this one. I was comparing my vid to blown turbo vids and although it's similar it's not quite. My best friend had a turbo go on his GTI and he said it made noise anytime he touched the gas. Mine only does it after boosting a little and the DV just doesn't "blow off" right... it barely flutters

Re: Laundry List of Issues... Please help! (phantomstudios)

What's your vac/boost source for the DV coming from? The small line....
If it's stock setup, your N249 could be bad or a broken line. Try the N249 bypass if this is the case, and you may like the result

Otherwise, re-check everything to see if there is something else you may be missing on the hoses, PCV, boost and IC lines.
