I have read countless threads but I want to be completely sure before I start the installation.....and just for the record these are going in my Hella Xenon projector headlights not the oem housing's.

Vagcom work that needs to be done is:
-Deactivating the DRL's or setting them to 100%.
-Enabling the HID without Shutters.
Is this all that has to be done? I should not need capacitors/relays etc since I will be recoding via vagcom correct?

This is all I did when I got the Hella Xenon headlights, although the HID kit was carppy and blew a ballast so I am running halogens for now until I find a good HID kit.
What kit are you getting?

I have the Digital kit. Lifetime warranty etc.
Do you know why your ballast blew? Did it have something to do with how you installed it? Also will halogen bulbs still work correctly after you enable the HID without shutter?

As far as I know the ballast blew because its crap. Cheap HID kit (I bought the projectors used and it came with the HID kit).
Yeah halogen bulbs still work even if coded HID without shutter

Re: Just double checking about HID kits. (CNY_VDUB)

the link explains a lot of it. I would say that if you don't have a vag-com or a buddy that does it might be hard to do. The only way I was able to get it to work was by having andy from ross-tech figure out the long coding for me.
With a vag-com you have a graphical interface that allows you to select your options you want to enable or disable. The software then converts it into "long coding" for the control modules to use. With our "midline" controller our cars were not meant to have xenon lights so we do not have an ortion in the graphical interface. I had to send any a copy of my current setup and tell him where the box i wanted selected should have been so he could tell me what numbers to change in the code. If you were in Michigan I would be more then happy to help. You can look for locals with a vag-com to help you out.
here is some general info on vag-com

Ok I see.
Thats why you had to post the full scan of your car.
So Andy from Rosstech looked over the central electronics and came up with a long coding?
I should just buy the vagcom cord.... I was going to go somewhere, but ti doesnt look like that will work hehe.
Its like $250 right. I need the hex can correct.

If you're looking for good HIDs, cheap...
check out http://www.vvme.com/
You can search on audizine on actual reviews of the products. I know of a handful of people running these HIDs with no issues what so ever. 3 months, 6 months, a year and no issues.

that is why he needed the auto scan.
all you need is the micro-can unless you plan on working on older VWs like pre 04 or 05. A vag-com will come in handy for a lot of things.
Auto windows, fog lights, disable the drls, enabling euro switch functions.

Did you guys order from the site? I hope this doesnt happen to any of us..
http://www.newcelica.org/forum...79505

Of the 5 or so friends that ordered them (some multiple sets), we always used the main site and each kit came in a box lol
Can't blame VVME, obviously the dude got scammed by a shady eBay seller. The people we've spoken to via email and via telephone used proper english and grammar.

...for any car that is legal - they don't exist by definition.
The only way to add HIDs to a non-HID car is to use parts from a US HID equipped car - for example, using GTI headlamps (and all the associated bits) in a rabbit or Jetta.
Let me reinterate - there are no aftermarket HID kits that are legal

anything that is not DOT approved is illegal but that does not mean that it does not perform better than DOT specs. Euro spec lighting is better quality and the headlights have a better beam pattern but it is still illegal to use in the USA. I would rather have a better beam pattern and break the law. I have a drop in kit on my xenon look and they have the exact same beam pattern as when they had halogen lamps in them. Everyone on here knows that a drop in kit is illegal so you can stop beating the dead horse!

Not quite correct...

...nothing is DOT "approved." The "DOT" markings on a piece of lighting equipment is a requirement and merely means that the manufacturer certifies that the part complies with FMVSS 108.
I also beg to differ that the Euro light pattern in "better." Quite simply, it is different and was created for European driving environments - which are different than those here. That doesn't make them better or worese - just different.
The bottom line is that if a piece of lighting equipment fails to comply with FMVSS 108 then it is in violation of the law...

Are you an enthusiast or a parts nazi who loves driving around in a stock vehicle?
Most modifications could be considered illegal. Coilovers state that they are for off-road use only. Illegal. Euro OEM GTI taillights, illegal. A non-smog ceritified exhaust system, illegal. I could go on all day long.
This pertains to a lot of things. Have you ever tried to get out of a ticket by stretching the truth? Have you ever lied to a prinicipal to not get in trouble in school? Have you ever lied to your parents? It's just as bad as putting illegal bulbs in an aftermarket headlight.
