Anyone has an opinion/experience of that kind of driving? Is it possible at all?

If the parking spot isn't too tight and they're driving a front wheel drive they can still get out by turning the front wheels, spinning them whilst locking the rear wheels with the handbrake. Now this requires a manual - since controlling tyre spin on an auto is kinda difficult

It's easier with a small car, my old Mazda MX-3 was really easy to park using the ebrake, but I never had to get out of a spot that tight with it. It helps to have a small hatch, so you can get a good view of your front and rear.

I can see why this might work, but its very risky and you would need a bit of luck...and VERY steady use of all the controls. Plus you would look a fool

It's be easy-peasy in an auto.
Apply Handbrake.
Turn wheels to lock.
Put car in Neutral
Rev to redline.
Shift from Neutral to drive.
Remove foot from accelerator when you're at an appropriate angle to pull away from the space
(or... yoiu're firmly implanted in the car in front of you.)
Obviously... the only auto's I've driven have been rentals...
