Anyone having TERRIBLE traction with Bridgestone tires?

Ughhh...I have these CRAPTASTIC Potenzas on my 07 Wolfie...that's what she came with. I LOVED the Contis that came on my Rabbit. The Potenzas are loud, suck in the rain and snow, and are nearly ready to be replaced with only 20K miles on 'em. And yes, mine are the all-seasons. I'll never buy Bridgestones again.

...because of this, the OP should find the original window sticker for the car. If the sticker says "All-Season" but the tires are actually summer tires then he should lobby the dealer to get them replaced under warranty...

Once again, VW has never supplied a MkV with a Bridgestone all season tire.

yep..had her find the window sticker and the thing did infact say all season..were bringing this up with the dealer tomorrow.

...where VW supplied the wrong tires and instructed the dealers to resolve it. I think there is a TSB floating about on this issue.

More than likely it wasn't VW's fault. I bet the dealer swapped the wheels/tires for another buyer and didn't note the change as they should have. Double check it that it has the size & style of wheels it should too.

The reason they are putting more summer tires on cars is because otherwise a car won't fair well in press comparisons. Most people have no idea that tires are even more important than the motor in terms of track performance. It practically costs nothing to equip different tires, so manufacturers put the best on.
RE-050As are probably the best performance tire currently available, short of the track/racing type ones (and because of this, they are available as original equipment on TONS of current models). Next time ask for the dealer to swap all-seasons on before you buy the car.

I agree that road tests favor cars with summer tires and most people have no clue about tires.
However, manufacturers will generally outfit in-stock vehicles in four-season states with all season tires for the following reasons:
1. Cost. All seasons cost less than high perf summers
2. Liability. Summers on snow are real bad news
3. Higher wear. Customers that don't understand tires complain when they wear out at 18k miles.
Finding an in-stock car in our area with summer tires is next to impossible...

What tire is it? You said it's a Potenza, the only Potenza A/S are G019 and the RE960, both of which are not OE on any car in North America. I suppose it could be the RE92, but it's discontinued and I have never laid eyes on or heard of a MkV coming with that tire.

I should clarify
They have never had a Bridgestone all season on a Rabbit/GTI. Jtrujillo said his was a Potenza, the Jettas are Turanzas, which is a different model line altogether.

yup, the turanza is a touring tire, which are designed to last forever, they are a very hard compound, i personally dont like them at all.

I went through this last year, got my car in Sept 07, dealer said I had A/S and stupid me never bothered to check. A couple of snow storms and I parked the GTI and drove my wife's Jetta. It was horrible, kind of like the opposite of the OP situation, my wife thought I was a girly man since I wouldn't drive it in the snow. Then she took it one snowy day and it scared the you know what out of her. Parked it, until I posted on the 'tex here and everyone set me straight, I had indeed Summers. Called up my sales guy and he told me to bring the car in NOW to get it changed. The dealer took care of it for me, I think I had about 4000 mi or so on them. The Monroney sticker said All-Seasons, I need to be more careful. I ended up with the Conti's to replaced the Bridgestones and this winter has been much better.

subscribing to the thread only to keep up with further stories of people confused and asking why their summer tires are doing poorly in the snow.
Assuming the dealer didn't screw up and filled the order for the vehicle correctly, I'll just chaulk it up to Darwin's theories at work.
