1. would this car be considered A2/MKII?
2. why some have round head lights, some rectangular?
3. cis, cis-e, etc.
any other info i should know would helps thanks...

its an A2 (MK2 is what the UK folks say) but both are accecptiable. your car has really low milage, congrats

yes its a mk2, mark 2 is the proper way of saying it not "M K 2". Some have round headlights because you could order them from the factory if you wanted i think. In europe the GTI's all or most all had the single round setup. Most cars that came to the U.S. had the aero (rectangular) setup i believe. People opt for the round or quad round setup because it looks better to most people and you can get better lighting outta them. Your car is CIS-E, mechanical fuel injection with a knock box. The knock box is what separates it for CIS.
Change the timing belt on it asap. Even though your car has low millage its a thing you wanna do. If that breaks plan on buying new valves which aint cheap.
Check if your distributor is leaking oil, if it is replace it. It will save you alot of money and heartache if you replace it if its leaking.

Well, they've gotten A2/Mk2 out of the way, so:
headlights in the US changed over time. 1985 used regular rectangular sealed beams (6054s?) that people sometimes call square. 1986-1990 or so were the "aero" headlights people sometimes call rectangular. 1990s A2s came with round headlights. People often go to the round lights because they like the look better, so they're available as such on the aftermarket, as well as using OEM replacement parts (better made, more expensive).
CIS, CIS-E, CIS-E Motronic, and Digifant are the types of Fuel Injection. As an 87 16v GTI, you will have the 1.8L 16v engine, which was CIS-E. you've got a knock sensor on the engine block. You have no electronic diagnostics system, as it's not a single unified FI. The injection is mechanical, and is controlled by the fuel distributor sitting on top of your airbox, which is directly controlled by an arm with airflow. You do run a 3way catalytic converter and O2 sensor which the system can adjust fuel mix to maintain stoichiometric. The knockbox is a separate function to retard ignition based on the knock sensor. Your valve travel and piston stroke overlap, so as said, change the timing belt. It's likely very brittle and weak from sitting so long. Change the tensioner with it.
By now, the other fuel pump is likely going to have problems too, but go ahead and wait til you get that far before worrying about it.
Anyway, welcome aboard, fun cars to own/maintain/drive (often in that order.

). If you haven't yet, order yourself the Bentley Service Manual for Golfs/Jettas/GTIs/pretty much all of them from 1985-1992. $35 new from Amazon and many other sources. It's indispensable for resurrecting a non-running A2.

Congrats on a super low mileage car. Change that timing belt ASAP, if it breaks, you're probably rebuilding the head(~$1500). Good luck, have fun, read the Bentley.
