Re: Launch Control on Golf GTI DSG? (Fantomasz)

If there is a Launch control system on the DSG and its only disabled do you know if the system is accessable through VAGCOM?
Launch control is a system that some automatic/paddle shift vehicles have. it allows you to bring the revs up and the computer will drag launch your car for you.

This topic has been discussed serveal times on Audiworld.com. The final answer was no you can not change it through VAG. The lawyers at great Audi and VW of America see Launch Control as a safety issue and could potentially create some lawsuits for them. So they instead decided to take it away from us..

that sux..... the way that it works does it cause any excessive wear on the transmission?

or the brakes? the way I was told it worked that you pressed the brake in while standing still and then you revved the engine to the desired RPM. I guess that wouldn't matter since the DSG is in neutral at a stop?

Never heard of it for the MkIV. To answer this for anyone who comes across this in the future (note the original thread date) -- launch control was enabled for 2007-up vehicles in the US, and 2007-up owners who don't have it enabled from the factory can have a dealer enable it for you.
It's activated by putting the shifter in Sport mode, disabling ESP, placing your foot on the brake, revving to 3000 rpm, and then releasing the brake. You'll get a hard launch.
I've only done it twice -- once on an empty road (I checked carefully) to test it, and once in a parking lot to tease a few friends. It's mostly a gimmick if you aren't on the track but if you do track race, it's useful.
You WILL get wheelspin -- beware tire wear!

You can use launch control in Tiptronic mode as well as sport.
-Disable the ESP
-Select either "S" or manual mode on the gearbox
-Depress brake pedal
-Press accelerator to bring up RPM
-Release brake. The computer will slip clutch for quick get away
