Re: (johnny grep)

I have a feeling that in 2010 the A3 2.0TQ is going to outsell the Front Track, if it isn't already. I've seen a few of them on the street already; was at an Audi dealer on the weekend and saw some more. Kinda gives you a sad face when you know it's an option you wanted but couldn't get

Audi sells more fwd cars then they do awd cars, I doubt sales will surpass that of the fwd.

They might start selling more awd is somebody ever comes up with aftermarket parts and tuning. I'll stick with my FWD American S3 for now.

I didn't know nearly as much as I do now about the A3 but, when I bought my car, I knew that having a turbo AND AWD would be an awesome car to drive. Now that I've owned it for 7 months and having APR flash, I have no regrets at all keeping all that torque on the pavement.. even with the fantastic Continentals Audi gives us

Go back to the dealer and ask for some Pirelli P6s...so you can really appreciate the Continentals.

But that would mean that three models (and model trims at that) would have to outsell the entire rest of the fleet?!?
You're saying the A3FT, A4FT, and TTFT combined outsell the A3Q, TTQ, A4Q/S4/RS4, A5/S5, A6/S6/RS6, A8/S8, Q5, Q7, and R8 combined? I find that very hard to believe.
Edit: Oops I forgot the A6 also comes in FWD, so I guess you could add that in, but I still don't think they can outsell the Quattros?
I'm pretty sure the A4Q outsells the A4FT (it's very rare for me to see an A4FT on the road), and the A4 is the biggest seller as it is. then you have all the sales of the other cars to add up and you're saying those three models have more sales?
I dunno. I mean by what I see on the street the only FT Audis I usually see are A3s (which aren't a big seller anyway--A4s outsell them 5:1 in Canada and in the US you guys dislike hatches even more I thought) and the TT (and those are rare enough to see to begin with). Pretty much every other Audi I see is a Quattro.

In the US alone Audi sells more A4s then the rest of the models combined (roughly) I am pretty sure that their A4 sales even in the US are mostly FWD and not AWD, as stated in certain regions quattro sales may be higher but not all. Add in a bulk of the A3s and TTs are FWD, that the A6 can be had FWD and that at one point even the A8 could be sold FWD even in the US you have more FWD cars then AWD cars .World wide the A8 is still fwd in some trim levels I believe.
World wide sales only a few years ago were something like 70/30 or 80/20 in favor of FWD not AWD. AWD hasn't come blowing past FWD in the past few years.
Heck Audi races RWD or FWD cars usually not even AWD cars.
AWD is great, "quattro" is great and is useful however it is more a marketing tool then it is anything else.

Re: (chris@revotechnik)

Seriously though, for the small difference in price why not just get the Quattro. Despite a slight increase in weight there is really nothing that FWD does better than AWD. No torque steer, better traction when launching, The only time you would pick FWD is if you are desperate for a manual transmission which Audi for some reason doesn't offer in an AWD configuration.

95% of the time haldex is FWD and they will torque steer just as much as the FWD versions.
Also there is a difference between desperate for a manual and absolutely hating the DSG.
If I walked into the dealer today I would still purchase the FWD car. Not having a DSG is much more important to me then having AWD.
