I had my turbo re-built last year and the shop that did the work told me I didn't need an oil restrictor. I think that I do need an oil restrictor with the oil pressure I have compared to what that turbo would normally see from the diesel. Anyone have the answer? What oil restrictor are you using if so? Can I have the end of my fitting TIG'd closed and drilled out to the restrictor size if needed?
Thanks in advance to those that reply

You don't need a restrictor on that turbo AFAIK. It may help to have one, but I personally wouldn't bother. Those turbos were designed/used on many engines as OEM, the seals should hold up to higher pressures.
The most common restrictors sizes are 0.055-0.070 and yes you can weld/drill the fitting without any problems.

Re: FV-QR (Shawn B)

Anyone else have any info before I pick up the fitting tonight and drop it off so it can be TIG'd closed/drilled out ?

Is there an Earl's fitting for the top of the oil filter flange that is already an oil restrictor for -4 lines? Maybe one I can run in between the fitting I already have here (-4 female to -4 male)? Do all the ports on top of the oil filter flange have the same oil pressure, maybe I have to move mine?
Thanks

Re: FV-QR (Shawn B)

Picked up my fitting but waiting to hear back about the oil pressure in the top of the oil filter flange and if there's a better way to get the oil restrictor (Kinetic motorsports? 10mm to -4 used on a T3? for the top of the oil filter flange) if I need one?

if herman says you dont need one..the Id trust herman..diesels will have the same oil pressure as a gasser...if anything they will be slightly higher due to running 15w40...even then..my t3 is being used sans restrictor and Ive had zero issues on that side of things..your return line and time spent idling is a big factor when it comes to oil bypassing the seals

stock diesel runs the line straight off the oil filter housing no restricter. my g60t runs a k24/26 no restricter off the oil filter housing never a problem in 5 years.and there are no restricter's on any car vw/audi/porsche/mercedies that use a 3k brand turbo.
just my $0.02

Re: (boost is better)

I installed the new Earl's oil fitting in the top of the turbo earlier today with TIG welding it and drilling it out for a restrictor. No restrictor. If I still find oil in the blow off etc. I'll be looking into a restrictor from Kinetic Motorsports(?).

I was just wondering if mabie you were still running it into your intake...
excessive idling will also cause oil build up in charge pipes...it requires pressures on both sides of the seals to prevent oil lose...
but ya best of luck
