Well i just got back from my first road trip in the R and my ass hurt about 80% of the ride, so does anybody have a DIY or advice on how to re-cushion my seats, if its not too difficult, i may want to do some memory foam

glad you got my reference.

anyway... r seats, to me, are some of the most comfortable seats I've ever ridden in.
I've done several 11 hour (straight through) road trips and have had no issues.
not to be too personal, but what would you say your body-type is?
on long trips I always keep the seat warmer on at least 3 to keep the muscles from cramping.
and don't forget to always take out your wallet on a long trip.

Same here.
Maybe it's how you sit in the seat.
These seats are designed to hold you upright, like a dining room chair
rather than in a gangsta lean like a La-Z-Boy.

I'm tall and these seats are super comfy. My girl uses a seat cushion on long trips though, I think it's because of the stiffer suspension not the lack of comfort in the seats.

Re: Seat Cushions (VDubindaVR6haus)

well yeah, empty pockets are a must, and im 6 ft even like 160. now the ride itself is perfect, the R doesn't fault, but it just feels like the cushions have lost their...cushionness idk? now my older sister used to give me heck about not having a butt

and that may have a lot to do with it, i just dont have any cushion ha ha

Re: Seat Cushions (speedbump2)

i found tht if i had anything in my back pockets like a wallet, it would be really uncomfortable. get rid of the wallet and u should be good...also have the back rest more uprigth than you might think...its much moe comfortable that way too

Its all about the seat back position. I've done 21hr+ trips straight from TX to PA and back and been okay. If you want to complain about seat cushions buy some of the cheaper Corabuea(sp) seats like I had in my MKIV, 3months of DD and I ditched them.

Seat foam does get compressed and lose its softness/springiness after some time so if you've got tens of thousands of miles on your car your seat foamy may well need replacing.
I've recushioned seats before but not newer automotive seats, the trouble with automotive seats is that the foam/padding will tend to be "3D" on newer cars if you see what I mean, ie scuplted in 3D rather than just being a flat piece of even thickness shaped in 2D, so its going to be very difficult to replace the foam without having a factory replacement piece.
You might be able to find an automotive upholsterer int he phonebook who would be able to do this for you but I certainly wouldn't have a go yourself if you've not done something like this before. Another option might be to just swap the seats with ones from a lower mileage R that has been written off??
