I forgot to include Jeremy Clarkson's take on it...
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/t...age=1

The windbag doesn't even mention the Q7 through the first page of that... I started reading, and by the time I got to the bottom, I had forgotten what the article was supposed to be about

Amazing engine and interior stuffed into a bloated whale shark carcass.

For me, that's part of the appeal. It's an amazing truck in such a pedestrian looking body.
Cops won't notice that. Nobody is inclined to key that. Your neighbors would have no idea that it costs a small fortune or that it keeps pace with an M5. It's the polar opposite of what an attention whore would drive.

I Feel the same way about the V10 T-reg, except for the part about keeping up with an M5

I love the V10 T-reg too. The V10 is also cool, but a bit more coarse. The Pumpe Duse injectors are a definite step behind the common rail system in the Q7. The biggest drawback is that the T-reg is quite a bit softer than the Q7. It's cool when you take off from a stop light and the front end rises like you're in a boat. It's no fun when the corners come though.

You lucky dog.
Without question this car would be in my "practical" dream garage. For the wife, of course.

Absolutely. It would never be my choice for an only car, but it sure would be a nice addition to a multi-car garage. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Great engine, ugly car.

That's what I remember most when I valet'd a V10 T-reg, is when you hit the accelerator the front end lifted up like an old muscle car.
What does this V12 TDI sound like?

They need to continue with the R8 TDI concept and make that car a reality.

So you think there is nothing "attention whorish" about LED Xmas lights or a L'il John grill? Not like the regular Q7 is cheap to begin with.

You can turn the LED's off.
Maybe you feel differently, but I don't think that 9/10 average people would think it's any more special than a $45k Q7 V6.
It's understated. It's lower profile than a Cayenne Turbo. It sends a different statement than an A8 W12, 760i, or S class.
Do you agree with that?

Re: This thread is about the Audi Q7 V12 TDI... (Shomegrown)

I'm sure it's a real hoot to drive, but I just don't see the point in it. I certainly wouldn't pay the money for it if I had the coin. Heck even if I could afford it, I doubt I'd spend 100k+ on any car. It make a whole lot more sense to me to own something that hauls things and people at a reasonable price, with reasonable performance and then own an actual sports car when I don't need the space. I think I'd be more into an S6 avant personally.

It's a matter of opinion. If I had the means, I wouldn't have any car in the stable with less than 400 hp or so.

Why not own a 400+ hp sports car and a 400+ hp kid hauler?

If you chose your cars correctly and all you wanted is high hp, you could definitely do that without having to spend anywhere near $100k.
With regard to your other statement, I would say that it's wasteful. Why would I want a high performance car that spends 95% of the time being driven sedately vs it;s potential. It's one reason why for my current daily driver I opted for something that looks much faster than it really is. I can drive it hard and still be driving fairly reasonably. Alternatively, I could have just gotten a used vette for example, but what's the point? The car would just get me into trouble. I could have had a 350-400hp vette and a ~290hp corrado--both sound like lots of fun and both likely would be---and yet the vette would be a total waste for me for how it would have to be driven on a daily basis.
