Any reason for the front O2 sensor to respond slowly other than it is going bad?

CEL came on today in the middle of one of those runs where you start thinking to yourself, "Man, this car has really been running great lately!" It is still running great, but I pulled the code for slow reponse of the front O2 sensor. Any reason to get that code other than the sensor beginning to fail? This one has been in there for over 50K, I'm pretty sure...

Typical "failure" mode.
Contamination or not heating properly could also cause a slow response.

Bad wiring. After replacing the sensor numerous times (3 times), I ended up cutting into the harness and finding a broken wire.

How far from the O2 sensor electrical plugs did you find the broken wire?
I'm going to unravel my 02 sensors wiring to see if I can find my fault (heater circuit on both). I suspect a broken wire too.
