i know this sounds kind of newbish, but i really don't know much about the vr6. that said:
there's the obvious things, like intake, chip and exhaust.
-motor mounts
-pulleys (don't know much about these, which would you recommend without really underdriving the rest of the things on the belt???)
-cams (for naturally aspirated purposes, which put out the most power without sacrificing drivability???)
-port & polish/big valves/3-angle job (also know nothing about this, any info is good)
-ignition systems (again, know nothing...)
now that's what i know of, and i really don't want to go FI. i hear people mentioning the MKIV headgasket, can anyone tell me about that?
and then you can rebuild it completely increasing the displacement like LordoftheBlings did. what kind of work goes into that?
thanks for putting up with my stupidity

any help is appreciated.

Re: getting more power out of the vr6 - looking for basic information... (jeglseder)

yeah, i read through that a while back. that was just one guys deal, if someone did the same mods i'm fairly certain it wouldn't put out the same results - he has a strong engine. anyone else?

i know boring yields more power, but i can't figure out exactly why. my head tells me that a bigger displacement means lower compression, thus less power. someone explain please.
also, can you increase the compression of the vr? is it safe? what exactly does the mkIV headgasket do?

if your gonna stay NA get all the bolt ons, shrick 268 cams, and a big valve head. the biggest gain is from the larger intake valves. if your gonna spend the money to p-n-p the head get the valves too, you wont regret it later (like me) i built my motor up but stayed with stock sized valves so theres still a bottleneck. im gonna have to do this later

If you were to increase the bore diameter then u may see a slight increase in hp, but not very much torque. Most of the 3.0/3.1/3.2 kits are utilizing JE/Arias oversized pistons, with no increase to the stroke which only lessens the piston speed away from TDC, which will lessen the associated torque gains.
The MkIV gasket is slightly thinner then the factory unit for the older VR6's and increases the CR approximately 0.5-0.8 pts(stock CR is 10.1:1).
If still confused drop me an email-jumungi5@rogers.com

alright, that clarifies the mkIV head gasket.
as for boring out the engine, is there a point to it if you see no torque gains and minimal hp gains? can increase the stroke and change the pistons?
