Sachs sucks. Especially with the three-atom-thick spring plate straps they use to hold the thing together.

completely disagree sachs makes an awesome clutch especially for the money!

Re: FV-QR (tdogg74)

Straps broke off of my 020 sachs plate as well.
For vr's however, they're pretty stout. Unless you're me, and you drive like an *******. Pressure plates tend to break....it's not a power thing, it's a wheelhop thing.
N/A Street car only=oem vr clutch
Drag/turbo=Clutchnet red, and be done with it.

Re: (rabriolet)

Like i said, i'm making 125 ft/lbs to the wheels in my ABA and i've been using the same clutch since i swapped in the 2Y like three or four years ago.
I'll take back what i said earlier, because i do remember one instance when it slipped. I was in ATL rush hour traffic, it was probably 110* and after abour 45 minutes of stop and go driving it got a little soft when engaging. Haven't had anything remotely close to that occur again. It engages smoothly and grabs hard for the driving i do. I don't launch my car ever, and i only occassionly accelerate hard from a dead stop (red light).

so that 130wtq is killin clutches? that doesnt make sense

No, if you bothered to read my posts, the super thin straps kill the clutches.

I dont know why they dont make the straps thicker. All it takes is one bad wheel hop on a wet day and *SNAP*....no more clutch.

I agree with this. At least double strap the damn pressure plate if you are going to make them so thin. Plus, there was a run of Sachs plates that had rivet problems.
However, I will say that I did like the 16vpp/8v OEM disc setup for 10psi of daily driving.

I must also add that clutchnet is one of the only companies that has put forth real world r&d on our clutches. Straps is beefy.

As an addendum, Southbend stage 2 uses a 16v pp for their setup. The only upgrade is the segmented kevlar disc. Not really related to clutchnet in anyway, but it may be information useful to anyone clutch shopping.

Re: FV-QR (magics5rip)

well i have the stock sachs clutch in my car with almost 140k on it, i drive it hard everyday never slips im going to back up the sachs vr clutch i know nothing about sachs 16v clutch and never have really bothered to look at them so i will just take your word. but because one of their products sucks doesnt mean the company itself is bad.

16v plate won't even bolt up to a vr, so its a moot point.
VR clutch: 228mm
ABA clutch: 210mm
16v clutch: 210mm (different spline size than 020)
This is why 16v pp bolts up to an aba, but you have to use an 8v clutch disc.

Re: FV-QR (magics5rip)

Not to split hairs, but a 16v trans is an "O2O".
But you're correct about the spline differences. I have an entire 16v kit on my car. PP and clutch.

i never said anyting about clutch sizes or using them for different applications i simply said oe sachs vr clutchs are good and that i have no knowledge and dont care at all about the 16v clutch because i have never had a 16v and never will. but im pretty sure the 16v came wth 020 tranny's

Undriveability?
Do you have the dexterity of an elderly person?
I have no problems getting the car moving in 1-3rd gear by just feathering the clutch, no need for gas input.
And a stock VR clutch is pretty soft-grabbing. I'll admit it kind of sucks in super heavy (IE 5pm Boston) traffic, but even then, it's not impossible.

idk about 2nd and 3rd but i can easily let my car pull itself in 1st like an automatic does http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
i used to live in boston, so i know the traffic blows, but like you said its not impossible. unless you dont have a calf muscle

Re: FV-QR (..Derek..)

I've had one for 3, almost 4 years now I think. Stage II. Probably 30-40k miles. It's been fine. It's held anywhere from the 10-17psi I've thrown at it and feels close enough to stock that I don't really care that much even when in stop and go traffic.
I think a lot of people get themselves into trouble by improper installation or more likely just driving like a tool all the time, especially without proper break in.
Or like some companies, they've had periods of shoddy batches or quality control?
