IMO it would be a love/hate relationship. You'll love the power and handling but you'll hate the lackluster creature comfort. I'd rather drive a car with no ABS than no sound deadening.

what i was about to say.
look, i don't pretend to be the most amazing driver in the world (unlike others on this forum) but i had little trouble with driving cars with no ABS even through rain and snow other than one scare (barely had my license, heavy rain, didn't know the car didn't have ABS, etc) once i got a feel for where the threshold was for the brakes. if you get a feel for the car, and you're not a moron, you shouldn't have a problem.
the lack of ABS would probably be the least of my concerns- the (what i imagine is) a really harsh ride, no sound deadening, no radio (would drive me insane), etc. would be more of a concern to me. particularly in a daily. weekends, maybe not... but for a daily driver, i'd save for a regular model.

Re: FV-QR (dj_elite)

I'm thinking it would easily be a love/hate relationship. The deal I was offered was 15K with 25,000 miles on it. It's from a family friend and since it's now his third car, he has no use for it other then to make it a track baby and since he barely has any free time to have fun these days he offered me it. This would be my only car, no beater, no weekenders, just me and the RS all the time and as mentioned I don't see myself jumping on the deal right away as I would with an STI or something else fun with all the modern new stuff. After all I'm spending all that I have saved up from selling my 20TH, I should atleast be decently happy with my decision this time around, haha. Otherwise I'd feel like I'd be wasting it all.

Re: (muffintop)

My daily drive is an Evolution RS IX with 450whp and it puts a huge smile on my face everytime.

No ABS is actually better then the ABS system on an Evo. I'm about to install some pads with SS lines and I can't wait to feel the difference after that.

I say if you don't mind not having power windows/locks to buy a RS, you can definitely feel a difference between one and one with a sunroof/leather seats etc. It's a very fun drivers car that I wouldn't trade for anything.
I'm in the process of buying another place and only have a spot for one car (Chicago), my Supra is up for sale and not my Evo...that should tell you how fun the car is to drive everyday! Any old timer here also know how long I wanted a friggen Supra before I finally found one as well.

Re: (PineappleMonkey)

BTW - wait what? $15,000? Is this for a 8 or 9? Either way that is a STEAL. Also, from the comment up above; driving an RS with no sound deadening is hardly as loud as shaking a can with marbles in it. Oh lawd some of you need to actually drive a car before commenting on it. It drives as quiet (with stock exhaust) as a GSR.
If you don't want it, give me the contact info - I wouldn't mind taking another Evo a step further and making it into a track bish.

Is the EVO RS impractical to most people?
i test drove the fancy x mr with the sound deaening and the gazillion watt stereo and i wouldn't even dd that. Like being stuck in a friggin tin can, so loud. For 5k sure what the hel, anymore no thanks

Really though, you wouldn't understand the mentality of someone who would willingly want to give up having their rear end comforted by fully dyed hide interior with six way adjustable ass warmers to sit and multi adjustable suspension for a car with no "necessities"...to have one goal: Driving enthusiasm. I don't wake up in the morning all excited to drive a cornflakes bland car; I'm the person who was going to daily drive an Exige up until the point where I found out I couldn't hold more then one girl in it. Truestory.com/haspicsforproof. Multi lap sitting doesn't count.

Like mentioned before, just drive it, push it to the limit a couple of times and then see if you really miss the ABS. Chances are that there might be a lot of other small things that make you decide not to buy the car besides of the lack of ABS.
BTW I would be all over that like hot sauce over a T-bone steak

Re: (SoCal_SFVR6)

Pineapple, it's an 8 (04) and it really is an awesome deal so I do plan to go drive it this week. The owner already gave me the go ahead to have fun with it so I'm sure I will. I've driven in a friends RS and didn't have a complaint with the noise inside, or even the manual setup, so I doubt I'll hate it, I'm probably just over thinking it. Though I'm sure if I do pick it up I'll have to double check the doors always to make sure I or any of my friends lock them, last thing I need is the car to get stolen due to something so little as that. Would you mind PMing me with the modifications you have done? Thanks!

After checking KBB, 15k isn't that much of a deal. It's actually what the car is worth.

Re: FV-QR (Black Smokin' Diesel)

It's not impractical. I'd definitely throw in a radio. Sound deadening depends on the car. Plenty of people have pulled their carpets out to sound deaden then put it back in.
All that matters is that you're happy with what you drive.

Wow. So many fancy little babies in TCL. Sound deadening and abs.....

come on who wants to ride down the freeway each day in a short geared 110 decibel buzz bomb. Don't get me wrong that would be a top pick for a 2nd fun car but it is not a good commuter or highway car, sorry

A stock RS is not that loud at all. I was actually surprised at how quiet it was when I bought it. The ride is fairly stiff but certainly not to the point I would call it harsh.
I've had my RS for about 2.5 years now, and if I had to do it again, I would buy another RS. I've never met an RS owner that didn't like their car. Go drive one and see for yourself.
