Re: need help with my 83 rabbit 2.0!!! (vr6chop)

are you running original (83) hubs or cabrio/scirocco? are you using the 83's transmission or the CHE out of the donor car? there are differences cv diameters that will cause problems.
1) if you stuck with the original transmission there shouldn't be an issue with axles made for mk1's. if thats the case then check your mounts and make sure the engine is aligned right.
2) if you used the transmission from the 2.0 donor car you have a couple options to make everything work. (i) swap the hubs out for scirocco/cabriolet hubs and use an axle made for those cars. they used 100mm CV's which is what mk3's used. (ii) use the 100mm axles and grind the 83's hubs or the outer CV's to clear as the difference in diameter causes the outer CV's to bind at the hub. (iii) swap the output flanges from the aba's transmission to later style mk2 90mm flanges. this allows you to retain the original hubs and axles.
and just in case, as its a mistake that has come up before, the driver and passenger side axles are different lengths, so make sure you're installing the right ones.
hope this helps.

spoke to my mechanic and what he told me was that he grinded down the hubs of the 83. and used the 100mm axles. but for some reason there is no play. and he said if ther isint no play then theres a chance of snapping axles.
