While taking the Browns to the Superbowl I was thinking about this. These brands are arguably the three "kings" of the industry. They all have their strengths and weaknesses though. However, which do you think is the most prestigious car brand?
Bugatti - They built a car that is arguably the most technologically advanced vehicle ever built. In addition to that they also priced it at almost $2 Million US. The amazing thing is that they actually SELL this car. IIRC, the McLaren F1 was supposed to have a run of about 300 cars also, but they struggled selling even 100 of them. The Bugatti brand is similar to the Hermes brand in fashion or Patek Phillipe in timepieces. Rich people(and car people) know what Bugatti is, but the "regular" people do not.

Ferrari - A legend in racing and practically everyone recognizes the prancing horse logo. They do not have a million dollar car, but they have many used versions of their cars worth over a million. Hell if they announced they were making 400 cars at $1.5 million tomorrow then they'd be sold out by next Wednesday. That is without even showing the car.
Rolls-Royce - The Spirit of Ecstasy symbol is probably the greatest symbol of wealth in the world. Rolls-Royce had fallen off a bit with their cars, but the prestige of the brand is untarnished. They probably couldn't move a car that starts at a million in volume(not counting armored Phantoms), but their cars can get pretty close....
So TCL, which brand do you think is the most prestigious of all the car brands?

I once talked to someone who worked for an exotic dealership chain about what was the most prestiguous of the brands they sold (including Lambo, Ferarri, Maserati, and Aston, I think those were all the top marques).
He said any idiot with money could buy a Lamborgini, but in order to buy a Ferarri from the factory they mandated you needed a used one, first. When you bought it, you signed a contract with many usage stipulations and after a year, Ferarri would decide if you'd earned the right to be put on a list for a new car.
If that's true, and if Rolls or Bugatti doesn't do that, there's my answer.
FWIW, I got a laugh out of the following fact: We were setting up a multisite data network for all his dealerships. Late in the design, we found out that Porsche had a special router and connection back to their factory that all parts orders, etc, had to go through. I asked him if anyone else had such a requirement, to which he said no. I asked, specifically, "not even Ferarri?" He laughed, and said, "I wish it was that easy. When we need Ferrari parts, we have to look it up, pick up the phone and dial Italy and place to order that way. They won't take it any other way."
And now you know.
(I've spelt Ferrari wrong almost every time in the post, whatever, deal)

Re: (1320-20V)

Ferrari, IMO. Bugatti has not been around (contiguously) long enough, and it seems these days that RR's biggest following comes from rappers and people who watch entourage, neither of which I can stand.

What does "While taking the Browns to the Superbowl..." mean? Are you a coach, player, shuttlebus driver, in real life?

uhhh...i think he's talking about the same thing as taking the kids to the pool

Re: Most Prestigious Car Brand?: Bugatti, Ferrari, or Rolls-Royce (HaterSlayer)

I say Ferrari only because everyone knows what a Ferrari is. Most people are unaware that bugatti exists "IS THAT SOME KINDA LAMBO" and rolls royce just doesn't have the brand awareness it used to. I know of very few girls who know what a rolls is. Prestige tends to come from people acknowledging what you have is prestigious, so that's why that's my opinion.

Not for the regular models. However, that is somewhat true for the F-series cars.

Correct... That only applied to the F40, F50, and Enzo http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif My vote goes to Bugatti... It's more expensive and more exclusive!

Re: (novtec_1@work)

To who?
Enthusiasts, it's Bugatti or MAYBE Ferrari.
To rappers and blingers, it's Rolls.
If you ask the average Joe on the street to name an expensive/prestigious car, I bet they say either "Mercedes" or "Cadillac" (or MAYBE "Lexus") more than anything else.

The way I see it, though, expensive and exclusive doesn't necessarily imply prestigous, though they often do go hand in hand. Bugatti definitely holds a sh*t ton of prestige within the enthusiast community, but I'd bet a very small portion of the general population knows a Bugatti (old or new) when they see one.

Yeah, but who do you think they'd think has more money(which these cars are for) a guy who pulls up in a Cadillac or a guy who pulls up in a Rolls?

It's sort of like watches. What's more prestigious? Rolex or Patek Philippe? The Rolls Royce, much like the Rolex, is known by the masses as the choice for old money and pop stars. The Bugatti, like the Patek, can be much more expensive and higher quality, but the average person wouldn't know it.

Rolls-Royce days as cars for old money are over. The prestige is indeed tarnished.

The same can be said with pretty much every luxury brand though. There are plenty of "new money" people with Ferraris(Pharell has an Enzo for example) and a couple with Veyrons.

Depends? New? Used? I'd put money on my mother not being able to tell an '80s Silver Shadow from my grandpa's old '80s Mercury Grand Marquis, inside or out. If you had a new Caddy versus an old Rolls, who knows what most people would think?
The other thing, is prestige only about money, or is it about taste? Because many people would be put off by the gaudy flashiness of the Rolls Phantom. They might think, say, an S-Class is much more tasteful, and thus more prestigious. I dunno.

Half the episodes of MTV cribs feature Bent's in the driveway or garage. To much of a celebrity fashion item. Rolls seems more the real old world prestige car. The car for those who whenever they arrive is the time they were damn well meant to arrive.
