Re: Scirocco R (jbigs268)

The what, now?
You mean the this thing?

Yeah...we don't like to talk about the "New" Scirocco in here because we don't feel like it is at all a Scirocco.
But I don't wanna start a whole-NOTHER million post thread on how we dislike it.
They just should have called it ANYTHING other than Scirocco, and everyone would have been satisfied.
It shouldda been just another new VW and left the Scirocco name alone until they descided to go more retro and do it right worthy of the name.
We are sorta protective of out Sciroccos.
It's a diferent atmosphere in here, compared to the rutheless MK4 area, and we are mostly a family so we have to protect our own!

Thats just my opinion..I could be wrong.

OP - we all voted a few weeks ago, and contrary My Old Roc's fading memory, we decided 50 to 30 that the new Scirocco is slightly less of an abomination than Sodom/Gomorrah.
As for how we specifically feel about the new R's drivetrain, well, very few of us may get to experience it.

Just wondering what you all think of the Scirocco R, i love it. Great engine and trans. Seems worthy of the R badge. What do you all think of it?

Well, some people here like it, some don't. Some think it's poorly named.
Regardless, there's another forum specifically for the new Scirocco.

Well, i now know how the vortex views the new scirocco. I look at it as more or a fat golf and am glad that they brought back the name but dislike that they have given it to well a fat golf.

FV-QR

I guess it depends on what you mean by "fat". I think it weighs less than the GTI. No matter really to us Americans as we'll never see it here, so VW doesn't care what we think.
Personally I'm disinterested in the name, the car itself, and for that matter the entire current US VW lineup. The only thing that I find moderately interesting is the upcoming Bluesport (or whatever) roadster.

i would take the new focus rs over the new scirocco r anyday.

I tend to agree, but we'll never see that over here either. I'm holding out for an Abarth methinks.

Re: (jbigs268)

First,
The Type 13 is the new one.
The type 53s are the real ones.
The type 13 is a really cool "SPORT GOLF."
I will take one if you give it to me for free.
If I had to purchase it? I need to see how it meets my needs.
Other more fitting cars for less money come to mind.
The small dark hole of a trunk (in the back) is kind of a turn off.
New R drive train: I want it. .... in a low profile performance chassis that weighs 2100 lbs or so. Don't want a radio or AC in my R.
The UP at the LA car show? Hmm, perhaps. but no R.

It was a good call not to bring in the Type 13 to the US. It is very expensive for VW to stock all the parts and keep an inventory of cars on hand that will not sell that well. The Euro is strong and the dollar is weak. The return on investment for the Type 13 is not that good for VWoA at this point. The US is not that fond of hatches overall unless they are inexpensive. The type 13 is not that inexpensive and it is less practical than a Golf GTI.
I think that most of the positive US responses for the Type 13 are because we can't have it. We all want what we can't get...just like every other COOL VW that we could not get. At the end of the day I can think about some other cars I would love to have over the Type 13.

Same here! When/if Fiat returns in a year or two, I hope they bring the 500 Abarth. I will totally buy one.

Re: FV-QR (Chris16vRocco)

Not everyone hates the New Scirocco. I have driven a Mk1 as a daily driver since '79 because I loved it but it was time for a change. I feel the the haters would do a 180 if the New Scirocco came to the US. The MK1/Mk2 owners should appreciate the New Scirocco because of all the attention and value it has bought to their cars.

only new "scirocco" that is remotley cool IMHO is the GT 24 that did the Nurburging

Without any hesitation on my part I 100% agree that the racing program is very important to the success of the type 13.
Also I must point out that many don't hate the car as a VW. As a VW the type 13 is one of the most interesting cars in the lineup. Many of us were looking forward to a Scirocco that was more coupe and less hatch. If a (think BMW M) R version of the type 13 was affordable and available with some real ground breaking performance I would be the first in line to get one as long as it was a car I could race and win with it. Racing is complicated however.

I'll take one in blue.
I could use a winter beater.

Yeah, sadly enough more reliable than a 'real' Scirocco.

Bunch of damn whiney children, you all are.
