So I hard to hit the brakes a little harder than I wanted to tonight, and when I came to a stop the engine shut off - The radio and lights all stayed on, and the car was in gear (tiptronic), but the actual engine shut off, and the red battery light came on... I put the car into park and was able to turn it back on, and it drove fine (another 5 miles to my house maybe) - any idea why this happened? Thanks,

i was about to say maybe ya stalled it but you said tiptronic and that threw it off. ya might have just very well shocked the car so hard that something kinda came loose for a second. check your battery connections and make sure they are all tight. it may have had enough connection to get ya home after the stop but if you go over a bump it may pop loose again. thats my idea. but really no idea. just throwing something out there for ya.

I had that happen once in an auto car. It was like the tranny could not disenguage from the wheels fast enough lol

Same thing happened to me when I really slammed on the brakes (with my DSG), but the car was able to hold on to idle. It bucked a little, but it felt like it wasn't able to disengage the clutch(s).

Re: Hard Brake, Engine Turned Off? (classicjetta)

it happens with the dsg it pops back into neutral but not fast enough and stalls. No biggy. It only happens when you suddenly brake really hard.

Re: Hard Brake, Engine Turned Off? (GtiBoogiemann)

So it was basically a stall? I don't have a DSG though, just a regular automatic transmission - That makes sense though, transmission couldn't disengage - thanks for the help
