Yes, this video is older than the Internet, and probably everyone has seen it, but the insane speed on the Mulsanne Straight is just...mind boggling.
Let this thread be about those vintage racing videos which make you say "damn", and make you realize that racing like that does not exist today. Let's see what you've got

That's just the turbo fluttering. I don't think BOV's were used then.

It's funny that this should be posted. I was just thinking about how a modern LM car (any class) is so (relatively) tame with traction control and advanced aerodynamics. Hell, the closed cockpits even have AC now.

That's a Porsche 956 driven by Derek Bell at LeMans in the early to mid '80s, IIRC. Note the lack of the chicanes that were later installed on the Mulsanne Straight in 1990. Derek made a comment later in that video (not shown on that Youtube clip) that the cars were hitting 246 mph during the race. Imagine doing 246 at night?

i hate to say it but whoever came up with that quote can't even come close to the skill level, knowledge, and respect that Jeff Gordon possesses.

they have ac now too!?!
I remember watching some documentary I can't remember what race series it was. But they where talking about how drivers would loose 10+ pounds from being in the car for hours.
