Not sure what you did here, did you get locked out? Or are the doors getting stuck?
If you can get in the car, pull each handle off and clean out the inner workings with brake cleaner, then soak them down with a good lubricant. I use Fluid Film (NOT WD40!). You can do the same cleaning treatment with the square latch assembly on the door itself. If you can't find Fluid Film in your area, I can get it to you.

Re: FV-QR (VegasJetta)

looks to be driver side handle is about to break off, time for a new/used handle, easy fix
passenger side, exterior door handle is one the main problem, the handle click doesnt click the door to open, i tried a several times and it'll grab, pops open and at other times it doesnt!

I adjusted my door striker plate a while back and it started getting harder and harder to open the door (rear drivers side). One morning a couple weeks ago, I broke the cast metal piece that you depress.

I'm not sure we are having the same issue. But when my new door handle goes on, I worry about breaking that one too.

I noticed on mine, the latch that releases the mechanism from the post on the door frame does not open far enough to release the door. However i can open the door with two hands by pulling the trigger, and pulling open the door as i push down with my other hand on the handle. I took the latch off the door and cleaned it with break cleaner, and sprayed it with white lithium grease and it did not do the trick. All the components of the latch seem to be working properly, so it leads me to think that the problem is somewhere in between the handle and that latch box. I havent had a chance to remove the door card and investigate yet, but when i do i'll let you know how it goes

Re: FV-QR (Murphy95)

My 88 been doing the same thing for a while, I have broken and replaced the drivers side once already with a used one, but ive taken them apart and cleaned and lubed them several times with not much luck. Anyways I just ordered two brand new handle and lock assemblys off ebay for 20 bucks. Ill let you know how they do later this week.

Re: FV-QR (FletchMK2)

yeah my thoughts were to buy new handles for my gti and make sure they have the plastic sleeves in em. hopefully that could be one thing i can do.
lmk how the new door handles worked out

i was having trouble with mine...
take em apart and clean em up really well with degreaser/WD40/ect.
spray em with white lithium or silicon spray, it does wonders

Re: (sidvil)

so i found out that if i push my door handle inwards and pull the trigger and bam i can open it easily that way same as my passenger side. i think it may have to do with my door striker, may need adjustments
