They're really really common over here, especcialy the SWB, which can be had relatively cheap and is allowed to tow up to 3,500kgs.

The engine choices are interesting:
3.0L inline-4 SOHC turbo diesel
4.2L inline-6 SOHC turbo diesel
4.8L inline-6 DOHC 24V gasoline
Those are some big engines.

Hmmmm....There have been a couple running around the Cummins midrange buildings.

They are a huge truck though. Not Excursion/Suburban big but on the streets in Europe, it looks like a Kenworth.Those are some big engines.

how do they compare to Toyota products? Are they a direct competitor of the 4Runner (Hilux Surf) or the LandCruiser?
I saw a bunch in the Philippines when I was there. And now I see them on the news all the time whenever they do a story on UN inspectors in Iraq... The inspectors always drive Patrols.

The 4.8L is supposedly a pretty strong engine -- more powerful than the Toyota 4.7L V8. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
Patrols and Land Cruisers are pretty popular, and to some extent the Jackaroo and Pajeros sell well also.

Definitely concurrent of the Land Cruiser. Real offroaders with ladder frame. We´re only getting the diesel here (those other engines really don´t make much sense here).I´ve even seen a Patrol taxi (prev. gen.) a few days ago.

Probably needs a V8 to compete I guess.
Doesn't matter now, since there's going to be a full-size SUV based off the Titan anyways.

The Patrol now has a 250bhp 4.8 inline six, the TB48DE. There's also the TD42T 4.2 turbo diesel inline six which is rated at around 160bhp.
No doubt, the Patrol is one of if not THE best off-roaders money can buy. Built like a tank, can go anywhere, drives well on road (unlike some of those phony image SUVs) and now gets an engine that's up to its sheer weight. Not to mention luxurious and good value.

Ah the Patrol! The unofficial car of Paraguay.You can't throw a rock in that country without hitting one.A couple years ago the Vice President was assasinated in one.They can go anywhere, it just takes them forever to do so.They are very sluggish.
